Go for it Seax. And I believe that you can write about anything for anyone, You are just building a wall up so you can fail and that is not on. It is not right to cheat yourself like that. So go on you get down to it!
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Hi Seaxwyn
Hope you're busy writing .... there's lots of support on here, sorry I wasn't so I could contribute to it then, but I'm catching up now. You're a good writer! And you want that money, so go with it - I like what Hypno and Chev have said, get what you need to start writing, and stop cheating yourself. Here's hoping it all goes well for you today.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi! Hope the article is going well - it is a shame about the other one, but I guess that if you are never ever going to write it, it's better to let the editor know than keep them hanging on waiting.
I can't help thinking that what would really help you would be someone else to work with, so that when you get too much work you have someone to pass things on to, or bounce ideas off when you get stuck. Is there anyone you know in the same line, who might be interested in some kind of a working relationship?
I'm the same as you, trying to get something finished over the weekend around kids, family etc. When the editor sent me the book, she asked me to send the queries to the author directly rather than via her because they were due to go out on the 26th and she wouldn't be in the office that day. I did mention ever so politely that I wouldn't be working then either!
PS I agree, £30 for a classic film is a bit steep, especially if your kids might find it a bit oldfashioned. Hope you can find a little treat for you all to watch together instead!0 -
Hi Seaxwyn of course your diary is an inspiration to others because of it's sheer honesty.I too love reading the diaries and sharing in peoples good times and trying to offer comfort in bad times.Trying to become debt free is hard enough without everything else that is thrown at us.
Hopefully you are doing well on that first piece and maybe will dig deep and manage to find the answer to the second so that it flows freely.
I too agree that £30 is quite a lot for the pictures and that you could probably find something just as good on the TV and if all else fails how about renting a DVD.0 -
I agree Taxi, but had a thought re cinemas..how about orange wednesday? Half price the lot, nip to the shops to stock up on goodies and treat yourself to a Blockbuster.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
How's it gone today? I hope that you've made some inroads.
I think in the New Year we'll have to motivate each other more - there is so much I need/want to do, but have spent so long procrastinating that it seems like an insurmountable challenge. I also want to make sure that I'm there 100% for the kids, which you also obviously want to do - so let's make some challenges and do it!! We could send each other reminders lol.

One article is not quite done but nearly, and I emailed the editor saying I couldn't do the other and offering a scaled down version. Of course I could and should have done it, but I feel OK with the decision. It was on a subject and for a publication that are not really close to my heart, I had struggled with it, the real mistake was accepting the commission.
Tyllwyd, I do sometimes share work with others and that is so much more pleasant than struggling alone. In this case the two features should have been straightforward to write, and were based on interviews that I did, so I didn't think to involve anyone else. But I have been thinking about what kind of contracts I want and what I don't, and feature-writing of this kind is something I will not rush to expand.
I didn't go to the cinema, I don't know what I was thinking of! Well escaping the work probably. My daughters and I love old-fashioned musicals so I'll look out for one to watch over the holidays.
The kids have decorated the house, there are paperchains and snowflakes hanging from every surface. It looks lovely. I wish I could enter into their festive spirit, but I'm feeling rather gloomy. I'm glad it's the solstice today, the sun will renew and we can look forward to summer.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
