I'm sure the school could have lent them a camera if they'd asked. They have had a month to do this, and I think have been hiding behind the lack of technology because actually they don't have any ideas for the films they are meant to make. I'm annoyed with OH for not helping them, especially as he is now a film studies teacher!

Hi Seaxwyn - sorry things are so up and down at the mo, just when you'd got the bit between your teeth with the proofreading, this comes up and socks you one. Hope OH has come in on this, as Hypno says, and you're doing your assignments.

I'm not sure OH is the right person to help, so I have enlisted one of their friends' dads, who is more patient. I'll have a talk to the girls after school and see if we can do some filming so they have made a start on the project. That's if the teacher gives them an extension of course.

Anyway that's a distraction from my DFW/work worries. Once again I am determined to tackle my disorganised, deadline-missing approach. It feels like Groundhog Day but perhaps this time I can do it. So at 9.30 I'm going to ring one client cancelling some meetings for today, and another client to grovel (or lie) about another deadline. Then I'm going to pull my finger out and get the proofreading and the other job finished and NEVER AGAIN waste time when I have work to do. Watch this space.

Hi Seaxwyn - I know the deadline missing, distraction from the pressing work, techniques so well. Big hugs! It can be so hard to focus and prioritise. Just recently I realised I had been putting off sorting out expenses for hundreds of pounds in favour of posting items for 99p on eBay!! Not very clever DFW me :o.

My sister (who used to be as bad as me but is now running her own business and managing things really well) gave me a pointer to a system called Getting Things Done - I haven't adopted it wholesale (or completely successfully - hence the expenses and stuff :p) but it has helped me to get things out of my head and into some kind of system. There is a book but I think you will find it on the web too.

Good luck - and don't be too hard on yourself. :)

Aaargh! I'm not Getting Much Done! Thanks for the recommendation, Mizmir, I will look for that book for sure.

Work is drifting in and getting stuck in a backlog while I struggle with writer's block on an interview I'm writing up. He was a really interesting man but I just can't hone down the hour-long interview into 1200 words! Meanwhile have lied to client saying the article is finished and am just checking details. So really must pull my finger out and make that lie true.

As one of many prevarication activities I have been reading the website of the PR company where my friend said I should be able to get work. They do really interesting stuff, and I know I'm being stupid saying I don't like working there. They pay well and working there would be the fastest route out of debt that is open to me. So once I've cleared this backlog I'll try to write a CV to appeal to them.

I must find a way of making myself realise that working hard would solve so many of my problems, not least debt and the self-loathing I have from wasting time so much. I know what I need to do but I can't make myself do it.

I've just today realised that I'm in a position to do some stoozing.

I still have £1k spare credit on my new Virgin CC, which is 0% for balance transfers til July '09, subject to a 3% fee.

I've only just realised that I should probably 'transfer' this into my ISA (via my current account). Thus increasing my debt but making more than enough interest to offset the fee.

Is this a good idea? Are there any catches? Opinions welcome.

I *think* thats the right thing to do, Seaxwyn, but I'm blowed if I know how to do it. This thing about letting things drift is really getting in the way for you, isn't it? I think thats especially difficult when the work you're doing is creative, like writing. I wish I knew the answer - little treats afterwards? A walk round the block? I just don't know. I do prevaricate, or do things that aren't urgent over things that are (I'm desperate about my garden at the moment) .... don't really have an answer, or even anything useful to say. Just feeling your pain, along with my own.
