Evening all. Karma OMG about getting on the wrong train! Thank goodness you realised in time. Come to think of it, it wasn't even on the right platform for a London train, I should have realised.

I've been wearing the lovely jacket all day and feel as if I've had it all my life. It's so comfortable, and just right for this cold weather with a jumper or two underneath.

Well we've had a change of plans as the car is off the road with two illegal tyres, which can't be replaced til Monday. So we can't go to France after all. After getting over the disappointment I'm quite glad - I've lost the £20 I paid (non-transferable as it was a special deal) but I've saved the money we would otherwise have spent. And I've arranged to do a day's work instead - so will get a day's pay, which is a good start to the week.

This gave me the erroneous impression that I'd saved money (totally forgetting the tyres and bearing will cost £135 and we haven't even had the MOT yet, who knows what horrors are still to emerge?) SO... I spent £17.50 on clothes for myself today. All in a charity shop - including a Monsoon skirt (I'd been subliminally envying Bountiful's I think) and a dress from New Look, I paid £7 for, bet it didn't cost much more than that new.
Also I took the youngest 2 kids to the cinema, which cost £16 for the three of us  Plus £6 on bus fares  And I paid £2.20 for sweets and £1.20 for a cup of tea for me. It's amazing how much you can spend just doing 'normal' things. It really sticks in my craw after being a DFW for so long.

My sister visited and gave me 40 Euros. And my dad paid my DDs £5 each to make a powerpoint for a talk he's giving (now why didn't he ask me?)

I've got a load of proofreading to do this weekend so I'd better get on with it, but not before I've had a browse and caught up on a few diaries.

  • Hope you enjoy the Monsoon skirt! I am wearing my 'new' jumper right now and loving it! I have a shirt I bought in New Look about 10 years ago which is still a favourite - must have been washed a thousand times and is as good as new - hope the dress you bought turns out to be money well spent :)

Thanks bountiful! I'm pretty pleased with my charity shop haul. The New Look dress is nice and will look good over jeans or on its own. I'm shocked by the amount I've spent in just one day though. Really must get down to that proofreading to recoup the damage.

See, being "normal" is just not good for us!

Long live "not being normal, just pretending to wish we were" status.........it is much better for us :p

Ouch to the car...hope it doesn't cost too much!!!...
Well done on the new clothes. Its amazing how much it costs just to do normal things..I never used to think twice about what I spent on normal but it def adds up along the way....I'm terrible now because I feel really guilty if I spend money on anything.
  • When you are with friends who are not DFWs who suggest doing 'normal' things (ie things that cost money) - do you find yourself getting a kind of vague stare/blank expression thing that looks like disinterest but is really a sort of 'Yikes!' I had a friend round for a coffee and chat yesterday - I suggested going for a walk, she suggested looking round the shops and put a tenner in her pocket from her purse - I trailed around charity shops with her pretending I didn't need or want anything. She knows I haven't got much money, but it doesn't seem to realise that means I REALLY don't have ANY money for just spending like that.

Thats me! I have quite a few friends who think of themselves as hard up - who eat breakfast in cafes, still buy all organic, think nothing of two punnets of blueberries, etc etc - they really don't get it. Actually, I'm kind of glad they don't, *I'd* like to buy blueberries, thank you very much! But it does mean that with most of them, I just bite my tongue & don't say anything. With my (work) partner, I just say, "I can't buy that, I'm poor!". He gets a bit shocked, poor lamb, but he always gets the truth from me - most of it, anyway :rotfl:

I used to be one of those people. 30 grand in debt, and still buying punnets of blueberries!

Ah. KC nods sagely. I have to admit, I still buy organic eggs, I'm not convinced that ordinary eggs aren't somewhat toxic. Okay, I just destroyed my own point. I never said I was logical, just poor! :rotfl: :o
