If that fails, will try to borrow one, but I am so embarrassed by always asking for charity.
I don't see it as charity - just last night, for example, a mate of OH's nipped round to borrow his bike and a hammer (I'm hoping they are going to be used one at a time!). Seems pretty normal, not a matter of charity, to me....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Thanks neverdespairgirl, I know I'm being silly!
I've just booked us a daytrip to France as a half-term school treat. £20 all in for the ferry crossing, and we get 6 free bottles of wine and BOGOF meal on the ferry. It was in the weekly email. Very excited, we all love ferries and going abroad, if only for a few hours!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

You are a bit - no offence! Borrowing something isn't charity, it's just sensible and saves cash.
Last year one of my best mate's car packed up, and was in the garage for a fortnight. I lent her our car - we don't use it much, and it was silly her hiring one. She paid the small insurance charge for adding her to the policy, and returned it full of petrol, and we were all happy. Not charity, just mates!I've just booked us a daytrip to France as a half-term school treat. £20 all in for the ferry crossing, and we get 6 free bottles of wine and BOGOF meal on the ferry. Wow, great deal! We used to do daytrips a lot when I was a child - my Dad always insisted on standing on a beach quoting, "Can this cockpit hold the vasty fields of France?"...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Well OH found a bike that fits DD and has fixed it up, phew!
But unfortunately our new and long awaited car keys have b*ggered up the door locks! Now the boot won't open at all and two of the doors can only be opened from the inside. So we daren't lock the passenger door in case that seizes up too and we can't get in. I hope the locksmith will come back and sort it out but am worried he won't as I already paid him.
Tomorrow we're going to Chinatown for the Chinese New Year festivities. I'm determined to be there by 12.30 for the Arrival of the Money God.
Before that I need to get OH to focus on the long list of bills that need to be paid. Car urgently needs some work (apart from the locks) and that will have to go on a Credit Card. We've had so much go out this year, both essentials and also a few evenings out and pub trips. OH only has 4 more weeks booked, and me not that much work, so we need to tighten our belts which have mysteriously loosened of late.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Good news on the bike. b*gger about the car keys.
As for the Money God - can you ask him the feng shui stuff, I don't recall we got a definitive answer about it last time we talked about it, and I really DO want to know where my money corner is!!

I promise to pass on any prosperity-attracting tips I can! I'm taking the contents of my change jar (about 27p) to give to the dragon dancers.
DD3's Chinese friend has already filled us in on various beliefs around the New Year. Apparently you should not use a knife on New Year's Day (which was Thursday) so I blew my year's luck while making the packed lunches on Thursday morning.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Thats good news re the bike for DD...the car keys theres no reason why he shouldn't come back as you've paid him...I think feb is harder than jan this year as my debt also isn't coming down as I'm paying for this and that as well..these things happen and we will have to ride the storm the best way we can....
Tomorrow sounds like a lovely day and perhaps will bring you some luck..be nice if you could make 27p into 27k...hope you have a lovely time!!!
DH may be offered more work and I'm sure you'll get some also..you usually do..so I hope you get some luck in that department also...take care xx0 -
Car trouble tonight.... OH had a puncture on the way home from work. He's quite capable of changing a wheel BUT the spare is in part of the car secured by a nut that refused to budge. So in the end (after getting my sick mother to drive me out to join him and hours spent on the terrifying, cold and dark hard shoulder) we got towed home and will have to find a way of removing that darned nut.
Also, the indicators aren't working properly and we have to replace the whole stick thing.
Then the MOT is due this month and who knows what else they will find.
Are cars really worth all the trouble? Apart from OH's current commute, which is longer and more expensive by train, we don't use it all that much. I'd be happy to try without one but as my mum generously gave me the money to buy the car in the first place, I feel obliged to keep running it.
What an expensive month we're having. I spent £73.70 on the Chinatown trip yesterday - and I didn't even get to see the Money God.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi Seaxwyn
Just catching up on your diary too.... those expenses really keep rolling in, don't they, sorry to hear it. Did you at least enjoy the Chinatown thing? I didn't even know it was Chinese New Year, I'm sorry to say. And your French trip sounds fab - thats one of Martin's deals, yes? Fantastic bargain, well done you for snaffling one.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
