Just to report we finally gave up and replaced the lost car key - total cost £94 for two keys. It hurt to pay that much but it was less than we feared.
Feb is shaping up to be another expensive month with gas bill, various car related expenses, £56 for a school trip for DD (not to mention the school's request for £74, which I am ignoring for now). Oh and DD3 needs a bike for cycle proficiency training at school next week. I've tried Freecycle with no luck, so will have to dig around in the pile of old bikes rusting away in our garden and see if any are the right size and can be salvaged with minimum of new parts.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Evening Seax...sorry you had to replace the keys but like you say not a bad price for 2 as mine cost £150 each!!!....feb is looking dear for us to as we have car tax and mot...
Could you borrow a bike for cycling proficiency for your daughter and £56 for a school trip ...thats expensive...is that just one day as well...and the £74 they can whistle for that if it was me...that school sounds really expensive!!!
so glad mine have all left school now.
I hope you manage to sort her a bike without too much expense.0 -
Hi Seaxwyn, if I were nearer I would be happy to lend you one of our bikes. I hope you can get one sorted with minimum expense.
At least the car keys were less than expected. Small consolation, but at least some consolation.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hi there - the £56 is the final instalment for a three day trip to Lyme Regis. Can't remember the total cost, something like £136. It's only a regular state school but they are constantly asking us to stump up for something extra.
I quoted for some proofreading work today, hope that comes off. I sent in my quote and the client emailed back and said I'd underquoted as they usually pay more!
Also a friend has proposed spending Sunday going to garage sales and an auction, so I might take the plunge and buy some books to sell on Amazon. I've only ever sold my own books, or books I've got free, so this would be raising the stakes but perhaps its worth trying.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Thats good news re the proofreading..fancy them telling you you underquoted so have you put a revised price in.You may also not be charging your other clients enough and it may be worth looking at what you are charging them..
Still can't get over the amount of money that your school wants you to stump up!!!...
You already know what sells on amazon so it will be well worth a punt as bargains can be picked up at boot sales you could try a couple can't see any harm in that..good luck0 -
Ref the bike
My mum and I went to the local recycling site today and we were REALLY shocked at how much perfectly good stuff got thrown away. One of the things we found were half a dozen childrens bikes, so that might be another avenue to pursue in your area.

Could you perhaps borrow a bike just for the week from a friend, or parents of one of your children's friends?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Morning Seax...sending hugs and hoping you have a good day xx0

Hi Seax
Thats interesting about bikes being chucked away round chev's - hope you can find a low cost solution.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hello everyone. Chev, lots of bikes get chucked out round here as well. My last two have been rescued from skips, literally.
We do have a few in various states of disrepair in the garden, I fear they are all too small for DD3 who is a tall leggy girl. But will give OH the task of trying to cobble one together for her this weekend. If that fails, will try to borrow one, but I am so embarrassed by always asking for charity.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
