Neverdespairgirl - what a lovely profile pic! I do freelance writing and editing for a particular sector, so it involves specialist subject knowledge as well. .

Thank you! That's me and my little angel. Well, my son, anyway! Sounds like the kind of specialist job where freelancing really does pay off, hope you enjoy it!

Well today's meeting was postponed til Weds so I have a free day. I will get a few hours work done for another client, then get going on cleaning the house and hunting down those darned elusive keys..

Best of luck with the work.

I sent off for DD and DS passports today - £46 each!!! - it's outrageous. OH tried to dissuade me from getting DS's as he isn't going anywhere - but I felt I wanted to be able to go if we get an opportunity. The thing I hate most about being in debt is the not travelling - I wanted to bring my children up as citizens of the world..

They are still very young, once you are no longer in debt there are many years left where you can travel with them.

Afternoon Seaxwyn..hope you are well and sorry the meeting was cancelled ..that's a great idea that you e-mail them first as that gets awkwardness out of the way.I second never despair in the above post and another angle is they are learning a valuable lesson in life about the world of finance..if only I knew then what I've learnt since joining here what a different life I would've had...I didn't take my children abroad until 3 years ago and at that time she was 16.It will all come.
You will get some more work soon as like you say yours is a specialist field..hope you find those dreaded keys ...take care xx

I sometimes think the olden days were better in a way when fathers went to work and mothers stayed at home and the world wasn't so materialistic...though I guess it was hard work for the mothers no washers and dryers and no cars ...

Not just harder for the mothers, it didn't suit all of them either.

My paternal grandmother was a nurse. She worked hard, and was a Matron in a children's hospital during the war. My Dad's brother and my Dad were born after the war, and convention said she couldn't go out to work.

My Dad and uncle reckon that once they started school she was bored, and quite frustrated. At least women aren't forced into only one life pattern now.

Well it didn't apply for everyone - my maternal grandmother ran a shop, while grandfather worked in the shipyards.

Hello everyone. No sign of the keys.... And my neighbour kindly pointed out that one of the tyres is going flat. We've decided on Wednesday as the date when we declare the keys officially lost, so I've still got another day to turn things upside down.

No, it didn't. But in many communities, there was a real stigma for wives and mothers who worked.

Women have, of course, ALWAYS worked outside the home, as well as in it. Just for most of history they have been under-paid, over-worked, and exploited.

Hope you can find the stupid things, how annoying for you!

On the working mothers thing..... I agree we are lucky these days that mothers can choose to work or not work. I had a very happy couple of years when I was a stay-at-home mum. I was very content to live on OH's earnings and devote myself to keeping the children entertained and the house more or less clean. But I know it's not for everyone and some women are much happier working.

My OH has done his time as a house-husband too and he never liked it. He always had to keep busy with 'pretend work' to save his sanity.
