Thank you for the replies everyone. Wasn't expecting so much helpful advice, (still trawling through it all!)
Being a total decorating newbie, I actually feel quite experienced on the colour choosing front now :) A definite must to buy the testers and not rely on what they look like online etc! I hear ya!
Although the room is an average size a little more on the small side, would you suppose it'd be wise to paint the whole thing purple or choose a complimentary colour? Hopefully not yellow!
DD likes the idea of a purple tint type of thing as white seems too clashy In DD's opinion.....
Would anyone recommend any colours that would sorta match with the whole bright purple scene. Don't wanna make the room seem overly dark or like an explosion in a ribena factory as cycling yorkie says! Hehe!
    Any suggestions please.

what about painting the whole room the ''hint of purple'' white with the complimentary shade in a big horizontal band around the room? you'd need a spirit level, measuring tape and some masking tape. Then purple curtains and some purple bedding and accesories?

I just know the hint of purple thing would go wrong for me!
I just wish you could get little decorators in the paint pots who would do this all for you! :p:D
    Thanks for the suggestion though.....
As for the striped suggestion, which I thought w as lovely, cute and modern idea to DD its apparently an imitation of a clowns gift box! Sorry!

Buy satin finish rather than a matt finish. It won't look so dull and satin finishes are kinder to the eye if your walls aren't perfect. Matt paint shows up all the lumps and bumps and can be oppressive if the colours you're using happen to be dark.

What about lilac rather than deep purple? or if there's a chimney breast in her room, paint this dark purple and the rest lilac to make a feature out of it. If she says that she doesn't like lilac suggest 'wisteria' and show her a pic on t'internet of a picture of the flowers. It's the same colour as lilac but sounds much nicer to some folks' ears. :)

My DD has 1 purple wall. The other 3 are magnolia.

I used B & Q own brand paint in a colour *Victoria*.....it comes in clear plastic tubs so the colour you see is actually the colour you get :D

I did line that wall with lining paper before i painted it though.......Didn't fancy having to try & cover it when she changes her mind (probably next month knowing teenagers:o)
