Oh my god why did we not think of that! Have just spent a blinking fortune decorating our house with Farrow and Ball paint. Has nearly cost us as much to paint the place as the deposit we put down on it _pale_
I need a :coffee: and a lie down
I might be able to make you feel better. We've done the colour matching, and yes, the colour is exact match, but the ''depth''' texture isn't the same....not that soft matt density.
I think its a really good cost effective answer in many settings, the colour matching, but personally its the ''texture'' of the f/b paints we're opting for. (on the other hand, we found you can use much cheaper undercoat on modern walls....on our original plaster we're sticking with teh f and b ones there too.)0 -
The chalky texture does make it look lovely. We are really pleased with the results. Especially in the bedrooms, it makes the rooms look really soft and cosy0

Yes you can colour match F&B but it just isn't the same!! I can really recommend going to your local decorators centre, do you have a Brewer's near you? The people in mine are so amazingly helpful and know exactly which type of paint is suitable.Slightly bitter0

my DD's share a rom with 2 purple walls and 2 lilac walls - I often say it is like an explosion in a Ribena factory!
Unless you get the dark purple right - and yours is brighter than ours - it can seem very dark in there! Get your lighting right too!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
We went to B and Q over the weekend and brought those card colour thingies with the different light dark variations.
Originally she was interested in Pamplona Purple 3 it seemed vibrant enough on the card, but on the 3D tool it seems duller and much less brighter
The colour variation is more likely to be down to your monitor the actual paint colour will be more like the card.. it does state that on the site. We have such massive variations between OH's laptop and mine it shows quite clearly how different it is possible to be.
Go in and get a sample of the colour she likes.. you will find it is nothing like suggested on screen.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Hi
Wickes own brand does a purple which is only 14.99 for 2.5ltr however was on offer at the Bradford branch at 10.99.
I brought this paint in the fuschia pink and painted 3 walls pink and the other white. Looks good but it does make the room appear dark so more brighter lightining and new light coloured bedroom furniture were needed.0 -

Agreed! For (serious) photography people tend to calibrate their monitors using e.g. http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/spyder3elite-v4.html so that their colours are accurate.
As most people won't have done that and paint will look different with natural light shining on it I would recommend getting testers and painting some areas. Try viewing both in daytime and at nighttime - when painting our daughters room we found that the paint looked too 'purple' (not pink enough!) during the day and so we had to change what we had chosen.0 -
Have u tried the color diva?? Its by johnstons, we have just used it for our front room and it is a lovely vibrant purple, we bought a test pot of it from boyes for 99p.Will not be a fat bride...

I've found nothing beats getting a few testers, you can get these colour-mixed too, and slapping them on the wall to really see what they are like. How the light falls, day/night and artificial light all change the way a colour looks so you need to live with it for a few days before deciding. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0

Thank you for the replies everyone. Wasn't expecting so much helpful advice, (still trawling through it all!)
Being a total decorating newbie, I actually feel quite experienced on the colour choosing front now
A definite must to buy the testers and not rely on what they look like online etc! I hear ya!
Although the room is an average size a little more on the small side, would you suppose it'd be wise to paint the whole thing purple or choose a complimentary colour? Hopefully not yellow!
DD likes the idea of a purple tint type of thing as white seems too clashy In DD's opinion.....
Would anyone recommend any colours that would sorta match with the whole bright purple scene. Don't wanna make the room seem overly dark or like an explosion in a ribena factory as cycling yorkie says! Hehe!
Any suggestions please.0
