If you leave a windows system running for days at a time, it becomes laggy and slow, yet a mac will work fine.
Strange the Windows XP system which was used in Control to monitor calls had an uptime of over 5 years when it was restarted a few months ago. Surprised the mouse cursor still moved working off your logic.
If Windows was so unstable why would most of the world cash points use Windows XP/Windows XPe?
As for your question about that publicity/graphic department, maybe they can't afford to buy Macs so have to settle for Windows Pcs.
We control the IT budget and easily have enough to buy Macs. If they requested Macs, we would buy them.
I know when i attended Uni for both Computing and Multimedia Design, Macs were used entirely for Music Production, Film, Graphic Design, and any other aspect of multimedia design, including web and still are today! If pc's are so great for design work, then why would a university spend thousands buying macs, when they could get pcs for cheaper?
I cant comment on other Uni's, the one I went to had both PC's and Macs for design courses.

I don't consider myself to be a fanboy of either O/S or machine because I only have experience of using Windows based PC's. However I've personally found Windows PC's to be more stable now then they used to be in the early days of 98/2000/NT4. I'm also wanting to get a Mac so I can increase my knowledge of Apple based computers aswell as Linux/Unix based operating systems
It is still valid. Windows is still prone to crashing, error messages and viruses. If you leave a windows system running for days at a time, it becomes laggy and slow, yet a mac will work fine.
Where do you base this information from? If the environments are so unstable why do many corporations still use them and save themselves some money? (I realise this is a contradiction to my below statement btw)

I leave my PC running F@H on the GPU/CPU for 24 hours a day at it hasn't crashed once yet. Right at this moment I've been browsing the internet, typing in this forum, playing iTunes, folding (CPU/GPU) and uploading videos to my youtube channel.

Usually because the people who control the budget are thick as pig !!!! when it comes to computers :D.

Also why do you keep stating a Mac is better than a PC. A Mac is a PC. PC stands for personal computer. Your comparing operating systems as opposed to hardware.

OH BTW, to the original poster.
PHP/MySQL/Java/HTML/XHTML/CSS probably the best tihngs to learn and that's only a fraction. You can make money in any industry sector, just a case of finding out the best place to target them. I'm going into the hosting/development sector next year, but I'm not going to put all my eggs into one basket either. I'm currently up to 15k startup costs without trying :)

Well, I'm suprised, took 11 posts to turn into windows v MAC!!! expected it to be a lot sooner than that!

to the OP. get down the library and get any of the idiots web design / coding books, pretty good place to start, and never used but as several posters have said w3schools has some good reviews.

Just preparing him for when he enters the world of IT ;)

Funny enough, in the North East where I live, coding, developing, programming, web design etc all seem to be booming yet other part of the IT trade seem to be almost dead up here.

Ha, ditto, soon as the word Macs are better mentioned. Instant argument lol

No computer is better than the other. You use the one that's best suited to the task at hand.

Im not a web designer :)
Ive built a few websites, however im one of those bottom feeders who use CMS like Joomla etc, I use them mainly to save time. I do have a reasonable knowledge of HTML, PHP, XML etc.
Im a support technician in a small team so we cover literally everything from basic desktop deployment, server migration to cisco router configuration.

Anyway, sorry for the thread hijack! I'll leave it get back on topic now.
