Anyone recommend a new ISP?

Hi,

Looking into this for someone not so technically minded.

Choices seem to be between:

Eclipse Broadband = £20.25 a month for 18meg with 50Gb download monthly limit, with free setup and wired router
http://www.eclipse.net.uk/page/Home-Broadband-2

Be Broadband = BE Value £17 a month for 12 Meg "unlimited usage", with wireless router, no set up charge
https://www.bethere.co.uk/web/beportal/bevalue

Didn't really want any download cap, and £20 is a bit too much.

Would have considered Zen Internet but there's is over £20, plus you have to pay a set-up fee and buy a modem :(

Any help / advice please?

I opted for Sky BB Unlimited. Up to 24MB speed, I get around 8MB, but am around 2 miles from exchange, also has unlimited download.
Comes with phone package giving free evening and weekend calls to geographic numbers. I pay a £2.50 premium as do not have the TV package, but still comes in at arounf £22 for the month. This includes the line rental.

How far from the exchange are you ? There is no point in paying a higher price for 12/18mbs if you can only get 3mbs at your location.

Put your details in here and see what options you have at your location.

First you need to find out what's available at your exchange
    do a search here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
The LLU providers generally offer a better service and price.

Be and Sky LLU are both good

You are about the same distance from your exchange that I am from mine.

    I am with O2 LLU 16mbs package; very rarely falls below 13mbs, usually 13.5 - 14: I pay £13 a month - excellent value with great service !!

Go for talktalk! Contrary to popular opinion their LLU broadband is very good. Their phone support isn't the best but stick to their online support which is superb. Their plus package is £15 pm (+ line rental) which gives you at least 100gb downloads pm and you're guaranteed line speeds 24/7, great pings and smooth video streaming. They only throttle p2p but every other protocol runs full speed 24/7.

O2 or Sky are the obvious LLU choices, even better on O2 if you can get the mobile discount (£5 reduction).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Who is line rental currently with and do you want to move it to new supplier?
Do you need a call package and what sort of usage if you do?

You have a good choice of suppliers there and going by line distance should see great speeds.
As baby frogmella says TT LLU has good reports lately and comes to around £27 INC
SKY around £22 inc calls/rental £15 Broadband only
    Be Value £17+rental.Be Unlimited £22+rental
O2 Allrounder £17.50+£7.50 line rental(£5 discount for O2 mobile cust)

    C&w suppliers <£20 1 month contract

I'm on BE Value, and it's generally pretty good. Bear in mind that it doesn't include an email address (if that matters to you).
