"if you will use it then why not?" - completely agree Michelle! We were offered so much stuff from people while I was pregnant and we didn't say no to anything. We weren't proud!

Our list of free or loaned stuff runs to about 30 items including expensive things like travel systems and 'necessary-but-only-for-a-short-time' things like a moses basket and bedding. That's money-saving for you! :money:

Congratulations Sarah Lou, I really wished I hadn't wandered in to this thread now, cos I'm broody

Although all I'll need to do is go home from work tonight into my war-torn house with 3 kids and OH all screaming at each other and that will put a stop to that :rotfl:

yup - also got a moses basket, baby swing, baby play gym, so many clothes we don't have space to store it, plastic feeding bowls, toys, you name it we have had it.

I have even avoided buying a car seat, as my sister passed on her hardly used 0-9month one, and then my aunty bought charlie his 2nd one for xmas. (i know you shouldn't use 2nd hand car seats but i know the history of this one fully, and wouldn't have used it if any risk.)

Hi Susan, Our HVs recommend you don't use these as the action to drink from them is the same as from a bottle and you're trying to teach them how to drink properly. If it's only got water in it doesn't matter if a bit gets spilled. They recommend you get the cheapest flip-up top cup at the supermarket, think we paid £1.99 for ours from Asda.

They also recommend Doidy cups from 4 months so baby can get used to 'proper' drinking. They have a slanted top so baby can tip the cup up and not cover their face. It does result in a lot of drenching incidents, but Imogen is slowly getting used to it. We put her on flip-up cups to start with and progressed to Doidys, but I know someone with a 4-mth old who put him straight on a Doidy and he's doing fine.

I ordered 2 Doidys from BabyZoop - great range of colours and pretty cheap, got free P&P and they arrived the next day :money:

    Here's the link - http://www.babyzoop.co.uk/doidy.htm
    HTH!

Michelle - we too have 2nd hand car seat which we know the background to. We were thinking we'd have to buy her a new one (she's 7 months) but our friends turned up with our god-daughter's old one on a long-term loan and we have our nephew's old one for M-I-L's car as she has Imogen 3 days a week. I think it's fine to disregard this rule if you know exactly what has happened to the seat. (And we have to have 2 of them, so need cheap/free ones!)

We've also have 2 prams, playmat, 2 M&P rock-on character things (currently cluttering the extention 'cos she's too small), a baby bouncer, bouncy chair, moses basket and bedding, regular bedding, clothes (currently every 3 months from a friend with little girl slightly older :money: ), toys, change bag. The list goes on!

Poor love, the only thing she had new was her bedroom furniture and the grandparents bought that. We have bought a new pram since though ;)

Thanks: I meant ones that aren't no-spill. I figure there's no point in having no-spill cups as she'll have to learn sometime that if you turn a cup over the drink spills out but I hadn't found any that weren't no-spill.

Have you tried Wilko's, Home Bargains and £1 shops. I find that those sort of places usually sell them. Plus, if you can only find ones which are non-spill, then you can usually remove the non spill valve. I also remember seeing them in Boots, but obviously more expensive there.
Also seen them in Ikea as part of a set with bowl and bib, but for a bargain price of £1 :money:

pt_138.jpgthis cup by tommee tippee you can't remove the valve from and charlie wouldn't use full stop.

whereas this sort with a flip up and down lid are about £2 from supermarkets, great for on the go, and he loves it cos he can do it all by himself. The advantage is that you can buy it with one hole or more, obviously depends on how much mess you want to make.
    ;)
