  • Yorkshirechick - like everyone else has said, it's probably a growth spurt. I remember thinking my milk supply must've gone down at about that stage.
  • We are tired in this house today, I just can't seem to get going? Just feel like a complete zombie and I know DH is the same. Jack seems to be sliding back a bit. Last week I noticed that it was getting harder and harder for him to go to sleep for his morning nap, which used to be about 9.30-10am for 2 hours. It would take him longer and longer to settle, so for the last two days I've put him down about 11.30am and he's been ready and had 1hr 45 mins. We've dropped his afternoon sleep as it would be too close to bedtime otherwise and he copes fine without it. I knew this was coming up but was hoping to drag his 2 naps out a bit longer.

Anyway my neighbour said when her girls dropped their 2nd nap, they slept for longer in the morning. Oh no not for us, yesterday was 6.20am and this morning 5.50am. So he's getting even less sleep than before.

We just don't know what to do, I thought we had cracked the really early morning waking and I don't think we can function if he's going to do this and with a newborn (although when she's going to put in her appearance I don't know). Feeling low, tired and tearful this morning and a bit like its all going pear shaped and nothing we can do.

DH said tomorrow if he does the same, he'll go in and change his nappy and try putting him back down again. We think Jack will protest, cry, scream etc as we've not tried this and we'll have to do controlled crying but on the other hand i'm wondering if its worth it, by the time he gets the message we'll either be ready to get up at 7am, or he'll continue through till 7am and then think the crying etc got him back up, so mixed messages.

    Foggy head syndrome today........

bailey :grouphug: hope the baby makes an apperance soon, and that Jack will be so fascinated by the new arrival he'll need more sleep!

Does everyone have these routines for their little ones? Joseph is now past the four month stage and we're still going with the flow. He naps where he happens to be at the time, sleeps after his last feed, which in turn depends when he woke up for his first feed in the morning and how often he ate. I haven't had any sort of routine for years, so providing one for J will require learning a whole load of new skills. Is this okay for a baby, or should we buckle up?

Having only had the one. I'm not sure what to tell you. I do think your life will be easier in the long run if you can start working towards J napping in the same place at least. I seem to think we'd worked on putting DS to bed awake for each nap from before 12 weeks (with dummy and musical mobile :o ). Actually I tried to do it at 8 weeks and had a screaming baby for 2 hours before giving in and leaving it for several weeks.

We didn't impose a routine for Ds, just worked on what he was already doing. He had naps after every meal (breakfast, lunch and teatime) until he was about 8/9 months. Now he sleeps 12 hours a night, as well as naps.

At 9/10 weeks I swore blind he'd never sleep and would always be rigid with fury!

Depends what works best for you and baby. We've been in a routine since about ten days and it made everything so much easier. I don't think I could cope for anywhere near four months without having had a routine. (Of course there are blips where she is hungry early so gets fed sooner or doesn't sleep etc. but overall life is that bit more predictable which I find easier for getting things done.) Personally I find having a routine makes it easier for me to know whether she is hungry, tired etc too. But there is no point in having a routine if you or your baby ends up stressed by trying to follow it.

Hopefully it will help his sinusitis - he's had 2 lots of antibiotics this year so far.

  • Hi Agutka, and everyone :hello:

We have a sort-of routine but it is entirely led by Elliot - and quite simple - basically he naps around the same time every day, but length of nap varies, and he has a bath at the same time (ish) every day. Anything more than this would require me to pay attention to the time of day :rotfl:I just watch for cues now for feeding and sleeping, but most of his naps are spent on me, that I would like to change, and will whenever I give in a buy a cot.

Elliot is 17 weeks today :j how time flies...
  • Routine can be great, but as the parent of 3 older children and a baby due next week i don't see any way in which i could get baby into a routine. The older ones do different clubs, and have diifferent social activities which vary. Hoping to join you lot soon as i am so fed up with pregnancy - although i think i will miss my bump.

Hope things happen for you soon Bailey.

    tsstss7.

There are two days between our LOs and my boys are quite independent because they are 6 and 9.

    At present I do:

Get myself up at 7am - DH (bless him) has already run my bath. I am in and out of bath before DH leaves at 730. Quick dress and I come down and make breakfast (and myself a brew). Boys get themselves dressed for about the same time. They then eat breakfast whilst I go back upstairs to dry my hair (if applicable). If Samantha has woken up I talk to her and then get her dressed, otherwise I leave her until just before 8, wake her - aim is to be downstairs again by 8am.

I will feed her for max 20 mins. The boys in the meantime brush their teeth, make beds, quick tidy-up of rooms. I then spend 10 mins winding her and then 10 minutes getting ourselves all out the door. We usually get to the school - 5 mins away with a good 10 mins to spare (I aim to get their early so that if something goes wrong we have recovery time).

Once I get home again then I make myself brekkie and then settle down to finish feeding her - if I think she may still be hungry.

Packed lunches are sorted out by DH and ready to go on the buggie as well as bookbags and anything else req'd for that day
  • izoomzoom - that all sounds very organised.
Well Alice is finally (after about two weeks of naps in the sling  ) back to sleeping in the cot for her naps. :D I almost don't know what to do with myself now.
