I went to the pharmacy to see what I could have for Alice's cough and they could only give me Baby Meltus because she's under one. It says it's dilute acetic acid so it's basically blackcurrant flavoured dilute vinegar! I gave it to Alice before she went to bed but she spat it out. What does seem to have helped with the sleeping though is putting pillows under the head end of the mattress.
I'll have to remember the honey for when she's older though.

try steam, it's very good for a croup cough so should help for most coughs.0

Thanks JS, I was thinking about putting some of it in his weetabix with fruit puree in the morning. Hope he takes it. I've got strength 15 from Tesco and it was £7.69. I was thinking if he wakes in the night and doesn't go back I could give it in a syringe, but if it tastes foul, then i'd be lucky to get Medised to follow after that.
DH is currently tasting it and says "Hmm not sure what to make of that actually......hmmm it does taste a bit sort of.......hmmmm maybe not something Jack would enjoy, but not sure really......". Helpful!
Think i'll forget about giving it in the night and go with the hiding in food option. I'm wondering now its open, should I keep it in the fridge or cupboard. Doesn't say on the jar.
Susan, I was sitting in Jacks room whilst he was finishing his milk this eve and remembered that I was going to put a pillow under the end of his mattress. But I had forgotten and if i'd put him down after the milk, he wouldn't have settled easily. however seeing as each time I check him he's at different ends of the cot, I wondered if it was worth it. For his reflux we tried raising the cot feet on one end and graduated down to the bottom, we just continued to find him in a heap at one end all the time, so not benefitting at all. Little Monkey! We try to help but........0 -
Hope all the poorly babies sleep well tonight and feel better in the morning.
I bought some biscuits to try Charlotte with today. They're made by Cow & Gate and are long skinny biscuits, so easy for little hands to hold. I thought it might be a nicer introduction to finger food than the unsucessful pieces of cooked carrot.
She enjoyed sucking it until it went soggy, and then she squashed some into her clothes, some into my trousers, then ran it through her hair a few times before feeding the remains to the dog
I'm going to have to put the dog out when she's eating as she likes sharing with him too much. Here I go again on my own....0 -
are they the bread stick type ones?
kennedy loves them she also likes the gingerbread men (not that she gets them to often) and raisins, which are good for manual dexterity as well.
have you tried apple slices or orange segements, the're good as well along with banana and blueberries.
why not try uncooked carrots, kenny wouldn't eat them cooked but eats them raw, saying that she has teeth so it does help.0 -
They are sweet rather than like bread sticks. They come in a box like this!
Charlotte hasn't got any teeth at all yet, so I wasn't sure about raw veg. I can give it a go though. Here I go again on my own....0 -
ah we have these ones http://www.ocado.com/webshop/getProductDetails.do?sku=21955011&parentContainer=10604
as they are not sweet so are good after meals as a snack0 -
Can I ask peoples opinions re salt v sugar? I notice that the savoury biscuits contain salt, and the sweet ones contain sugar, and whilst I don't want Natasha having too much sugar, I'm worried about salt content too.
She has sweet biscuits (the organic biscotti ones which she loves), and also likes apple rice cakes (she will eat the plain ones, but always looks quite disappointed when she tastes them!). She doesn't have a particularly sweet tooth though, and would much rather eat something savoury, in general.
We haven't tried her with the savoury ones yet, as they are mostly suitable for 7m+ (she was only 7 months yesterday), but I think she would like them. I'm torn between thinking a bit wont do her any harm, and worrying I am giving her too much processed food.
It's a minefield, I tell you!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
I think it's just common sense based on the rest of the stuff you give the baby.
Charlotte is having left over bolognaise and pasta for dinner. I didn't add any salt when I was cooking it, and it was all fresh ingredients so there won't be any salt in it. Therefore I would let her have a salty biscuit. However she was having a meal with salt in, I wouldn't give her the biscuit too.
Same with sugar.
Don't get them into a habit of eating rubbish at set times. My Mam used to look after the boys in a morning and always gave them a packet of crisps and some biscuits mid morning. That used to drive me crackers! I would rather they had "snack time" which included crisps or a biscuit some days, but then healthy snacks like raw fruit or veg , raisins etc., on other days to balance things out. Here I go again on my own....0 -

I keep ours in the cupboard, as I seem to think it crystallises in the fridge? I found this :http://www.rowsehoney.co.uk/viewarticle.php?navid=n03&contentid=c36The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0
