Hi, I'm new to this forum, and am a bit confused about tax credits. Daughter was receiving higest care Dla, which has since been reduced to middle rate since October 2011. Because of this I no longer am entitiled to the severe disability premium, and have been told that there will be an overpayment. Does anyone know if you are no longer entitled to severe disabilty premium, does the amount of income support increase.

Why would your income support increase? It doesnt go up to cover the loss of another benefit0

I don't know the answer to the OP's question but, income support is a means tested benefit, so I wonder if, in some circumstances, that benefit can increase if another decreases? There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. I was only receiving £81 fortnightly income support because of the severe disability element, and now i'm no longer receiving this wondered if i was entitled to more income support. I will be down around £22 a week.0

Income support is around £65 per week, if over the age of 25, so it's possible that IS would go up. It would depend on what other money you have coming in.There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

That would make sense, although they say that child's DLA reduced to middle rate - so I assume they can still claim carer's allowance then? There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
My thoughts exactly!! The way they calculate benefits is so confusing, if your income goes down surely they have to balance it out somehow0
