The chats is what keeps me going, knowing we are all in the same boat and picking hints up as we go along.

We are saving money, we are cleaning and not spending money on things we don't need out of boredom and finding things we didn't know we had so not having to buy new. And after our house is manageable we have more time for ebay, home cooking and looking for more money making tips on this website!!

    I'll second that!
I have NOT been to the shops this week at all!!
I've been really busy trying to fly, and found myself looking through my pantry and freezer for things to make for tea. How often have I bought new pens, because I couldn't be bothered to look for the 20.000 pens I know must be around the house somewhere! Just by trying to fly these past few days, I have found almost half of them! :T

And it's the chats that make me feel so good! I can stop telling myself off now for being a lousy home maker, because I know I am NOT alone!. It's not just me! What a relief! You have no idea! I always felt that EVERYBODY could manage their house perfectly except for me! And I was beating myself up about it. I feel so much better now!

But I do realize I'm quite a chatty person, and will try to keep the chat posts down a bit here okay? ;)

I also like the thread the way it is. It gives me chance to come round first thing in the morning and to catch up with everyone.
I dont need to search the thread because I use my 'Favourites' button to 'save' the page Ive just read, and then I just change the title of the link to add in the post number (i.e #1893). This way I can get back to the last post I've read, and continue from there.
    Hope that makes sense.
Off to fill the WM and do the washing up. (I have no DW :( )

Becca I totally get what you mean, I have no time to spend, I've only been out once this week (for weekly shop) and have saved a fortune by cleaning for the rest of it :D I feel great, energised, and less down and I have this thread and all the lovely people in it to Thank for that. :A

I've totally gone mad today and I've cleaned the microwave aswell as everything else - it was Mingin' but now it's sparkling, do you think one could become addicted to cleaning  lol

I'm so easy going I don't mind what threads there is on here :D , but I didn't realise the forum ettiquette re: this thread inparticular so thanks for putting me up to speed on that, moggins etc

OK... by request I'm joining in here wearing my "official hat" :)

No, this thread isn't strictly Money Saving (though as has been said, some people manage to find "lost things" - so that's a help...

..and yes, strictly speaking, chatty threads should be in the daily (or DT or The Arms)...

..but it was clear from very early on, (because we took time out to look before making a decision), that the posts made here each day would overwhelm the daily - whose purpose and emphasis is a little different.

DT and The Arms weren't really considered as suitable since these posts are much more concerned with what we all know as Home Economics or Domestic Science and so yes, Old Style was deemed to be the best solution for them.

So that leaves the problems of sheer size and number of posts per day...

Number of posts per day - we can't do anything about. You're all free to post as often and as much as you like.

Sheer size - I'd be happy enough if you all would like to start threads on a weekly basis (but please not daily).

I think it would be a good idea to edit the first post in the thread to have a list of each new day's tasks in it. That way everyone would know where to look straight away instead of having to track back through recent posts.

As for keeping track of tips... there's only one way to do this... and that would be to have a Flylady Index. This could keep a list of the most current Challenge threads, followed by a collection of best tips. As an index it would essentially be closed; so all other comments and discussions etc would stay here in this thread.

So... you all know where the volunteers thread is... and if you don't - shame on you :)

    HTH :)

Sorry, I'm guilty of off topic chat and (gulp) photos too.

    Have hoovered...
It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be
  • Thanks, Squeaky! Great compromise, with thanks also to Michelle. Weekly thread will be fine, with a front page to have the week's daily tasks on it. Moggins, are you up for that?

    So, today I have:

    Recycling bin - out
Kitchen floor – swept and mopped
Downstairs loo floor – swept and mopped
Shopping – done and put away
Hooks – put up by DH
    Ironing – done
Time for myself needlepointing - done
Card for my sister – sent
    Library – books returned
    Internet banking – done
Fireplace – cleaned and fire laid
Living room – hovered and dusted. Got my Flatmate under the sofa. Loads of dust and bits, but, cleaner’s perks, I found 2p!! :money:
Football and swim kits – sorted
Receive money owed by DD - done

See you all later, Penny. x

Regards the forum.. I like it like this.. I read every post, probably post twice as many 'chatty' posts as everyone else and the sheer idea of changing it makes my head spin. I know I wouldn't look at a seperate thread I would wait for someone to copy and paste moggs daily list into their post and go from there that. Maybe putting the daily tasks in the first post is a good idea.. but I bet most of us come straight to the last post.. but for those who find it hard to find due to the number of posts then I think that is something the rest of us would have to tolerate. SO.. daily tasks in edited first post.. keep to one thread.. keep the chatty bits because they are what make the cleaning FUN (I NEVER thought I would put 'fun' and 'cleaning' inthe same sentence without the word 'NOT!!') This forum is to support each other in our endeavour to make our homes habitable and we need this extra input from our flying buddies. Starting a new thread each month is enough I think.. weekly we would lose track of each other and our tasks.. something most of us cannot afford to do!!!

Welcome new-flyers.. you'll soon be flying high.. and don't worry if you don't feel you have achieved as much as someone else.. every forward step is one less to do in the future!!

Becca... I LOVE that list.. *grin*

Now.. I'm going to do an extra post because I've lost track of what I am doing.

    Saturday suck up

Today is the day for preparation. Clothes uniforms etc ready for Monday and lunchboxes washed. It was non-uniform day yesterday rasing money for lifeboat appeal so none to wash here.. and mine stay hot dinners (they are free)

No serious jobs today as it's the weekend! Just tidy any hotspots and run the hoover round the ground floor. Just need to FIND the ground floor and I'll be sorted!

Catch up with any jobs left over from the week. Such as the poor neglected kitchen and sticky, brown sink?

    Remember daily and nightime routines.
Saturday is the ONLY night I don't have to do anything before I go to bed aside from checking the bunnies have food!
As much as I would LOVE to have a Saturday like moggs, I cannot.

    1. I have only JUST got up after coming home a little worse for wear at 3am and then couldn't get out of bed so DH had to get the girls ready and take them to dance class..
    2. My backroom still looks like the photographs shown yesterday.. most unpleasant (Serena.. at least MY pics were only thumbnails lol)

    My list...

    WM
    TD
    BM
    DW
fold and put away clean stuff.
Tidy the backroom.. it is quite hovelesque.
    [STRIKE]Bring laundry downstairs[/STRIKE]
    Blind for DS1's room (3ft9)
Wipe sofas (I went to pub instead)
fill holes in bedroom walls and remove 'fake' picture rail (I'm having a proper one put up)
    List 10 things on ebay
    27 thing fling in kitchen.
[STRIKE]Sort mail[/STRIKE].. letter to sign and return to school, house insurance payment been missed (their fault not mine for once!!)

DH making door frame for DS1's room, and moving the plug socket.

    Starting with.. a cuppa!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I am starting to get an idea of what we need and how we can do it, unfortunately DD has friends round and it's a bit noisy to think but I'll scribble some ideas down on paper and get to work tonight.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

  • I think squeaky forgot that i am doing a flylady type index thing.

#1 - the complete how to declutter and organise your home collection.

If i can do anything to this that will make storing the flylady tips any easier, have a look at what i've done and let me know. I'd say do this by private message unless you have an idea we could then discuss.

I've managed to get mums tax done, wash up, make a stew for the SC for tea, and started to cook lunch. downstairs is looking quite good, and with a quick hoover it will be fab.

One washload done - will hang it up after lunch, and then get the next load on.

    Michelle, x
