It's up to the good people of Cranley, if they don't want them they can object!

The speed I have found best for my car (low, narrow car with sports suspension) is come to a complete halt before each one, then a 5mph crawl over it. Not everyone seems to appreciate it though, especially 4x4 drivers.
I have two cars, one being normal which 40mph is the best speed the other being a sportscar which also sits very low on the suspension. It actually bottoms out on a couple of ramps ... well I am not going to damage car for anyone, therefore many a time I have to stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear so that I can go between the raised islands ... this really pisses some drivers off .. unfortunately where I live I have no choice but to hit these ramps.

PS: I have just trashed another pair of front tyres and had to change them due to part of the tread being totally bald, as usual my tracking was miles out (thats 3 times in the last year I have had to have it reset) .. not exactly environmentally friendly.

IvanOpinion - have you considered making a claim re this damage? http://www.drdni.gov.uk/DRDwww_CompensationClaim/more.asp?division=Compensation_Claim:Vehicle_Damage
  • If the person was driving an MGF it might have been me .. although it has been many years since I have been referred to as a 'young guy'. :D

The problem is that my MG 'bottoms-out' on a couple of the ramps therefore to avoid damage I will wait until I can go between the ramps. It is not all the ramps but I am not going to risk damage by figuring out which ones are OK. However I agree with you, it is probably an accident waiting to happen ... I could do with a new rear bumper someone scored it at Tesco's a few weeks ago :D

Oh good Lord!! I didn't know you were a hairdresser Ivan!! Big of you to admit it though:T

PS Imagine calling a MGF a sportscar!

THanks AL, I keep thinking about it but the fitters say that they can never be sure - it is impossible to prove that it was caused by the ramps .. however they are seeing a lot more scrubbed tyres and tracking problems since these ramps were fitted.

Let me guess you drive a 10 year old Nova with darkened windows and one of those fart boxes on the exhaust that make it sound like a strimmer on steriods. You even an extra loud stereo to hide the embarassing knocking and rattling from the engine. You are the sort that comes up beside people at lights then thrash the car pretending to be fast as even the little old lady in a volvo or Ford Ka overtakes you as she changes into second gear. :D:D

I have loved MGs ever since the original and at the age of (about) 9 years old I promised myself I would someday own an MG ... I just love making my deams come true. I like the hairdressers bit but they mainly drive German cars.

  • Not exactly Ivan. A long way from the truth. Professional engineer - all cars owned have been completely standard as I could never really see the point. Covering 18K miles a year so fart boxes don't really do much for the diesel engine. PS Never needed any tracking done on my steering. If you are considering submitting a claim just make sure you have no kerbed wheels as evidence of kerbing would suggest that that has thrown the tracking out. Good luck.

Appreciate your sense of humour with regard to the hairdresser jibe. Take care.

PS I can now see your need to be a money saver, I would imagine just trying to keep the MG on the road could be pretty sore on the pocket!

:rotfl: In the 8 years I have owned it it has cost me £80 per year for a service ... nothing so far has failed on it (touch wood, rub rabbits foot, look for black cats etc.) .. this compares to a mate of mine who got rid of his Z3 (he got it at roughly same time as I got my MG), he was particularl unimpressed with the fact that in the 2 years he had owned it it had spent 67 days in the garage getting warranty work done on it. He still hasn't learned his lesson ... he bought a 328i (34 warranty claims) and his new BMW has been in over 20 times ... why do people buy such shoddy cars?

In the last few years I have had to take her for an extra wheel alignment check and replace 2 barely worn tyres (due to scrubbbing .. which I blame on the ramps).

It wasnt made clear which car the tracking was being killed on... but if it is the one in which you were doing 40mph over the ramps, well then frankly you are lucky you get off as lightly as bad tracking.
    2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.

Both my cars, some of my neighbours and several taxi drivers (that I have talked to) all have had the same problem. Maybe that is why they fitted the new [STRIKE]eyesores[/STRIKE] ramps that go across the roads .. to stop people hitting them at a higher speed. Strangely enough they have created similar ramps in Antrim .. the ones there have been done professionally not like the botched up amateurish looking jobs in Bangor.
