I made a stew last night - soya mince, barley, potatoes, carrots, stock. It's OK but a bit boring. Any suggestions what I can add to give it a bit of zing, please? I think I should have fried an onion first but I didn't have any.[/QUOTE]

How about a selection oh herb's? Tabasco or a pinch of chill?

boultdj, I might turn it into a chilli and add some tinned tomatoes too. Thank you!

Crumpets ceridwen I seem to remember an old thread where we had a big discussion and settled on the idea of using small empty cans as rings - but I could be making that up the way my brain is at the moment.

Surely rubberwear is very OS - keeps you nice and warm so saves on heating? :D

I've got a wet suit - do you think that would work as thermals. It's quite a struggle getting into it, so you'd warm up nicely just doing that...Plus once it's zipped up I might look a few Lbs thinner, so it could be a multipurpose undergarment. Just have to hope I don't get knocked down by a bus?

My dad always told me to pee in my wetsuit to warm it up :eek: - so maybe try that - 2 'alternative' practices for the price of one!! :rotfl::rotfl:

and er crumpets - m mum used to make rings out of folded up strips of foil shaped around a tinand twisted closed

shegar everyone is entitled to and allowed their own thoughts and opinions. It's what we do with them that matters and I'm sure that yours aren't used to hurt anyone :). Personally all the talk of eating liv*r turns my stomach, but I'm not going to try to put anyone else off doing it.
Thanks for the pm smileyt :)
Many thanks ladies for a really good laugh. It's just what I needed. :T

:rotfl:@rachbc. I bet the wet suit would be a sod to clean afterwards though.

Mrs Chip trust me when I say that thermals are much, much cheaper and easier to look after. Rubber/latex wear isn't suitable for those that have cats either.

smileyt I personally hate the stuff, but you could try adding a spoonful of marmite to the stew to make it more savoury.
