I have a cat who lives in my stick box RD. I put in a polystyrene box that came as packaging and filled it with straw, and he sleeps in there most of the time. He was at deaths door last winter & we took him to the vet, who found he was chipped and was born in 1996 further up the village. So he's not got a lot of winters left, the wee soul.

He looks gorgeous!! I have always wanted a ginger tom, but OH says no more :(
Since our nasty neighbour moved :j all the neighbourhood cats have come out of lurkdom and have taken to sitting on his old garden (who says cats dont know) and they include a very friendly ginger tom.

Our new hoover arrived yesterday and is being thoroughly tested as we speak, good job I paid last week as I have just discovered our income is about to drop by £200 for next couple of months, added to having just been told that DD college want £10 towards her bus pass and I am seriously stressing.
  • Hi I have de lurked to ask the wealth of knowledge that is the tough thread a question. My sister is turning 21 in November and as a part of her pressie I want to make it legal for her to become the guardian of my daughter, we have spoke about it many times and she is the best canidate for the job. But I don't know how? I don't have anything of value but I guess everything would go to her towards my daughters up bringing. Do I need a will? How to i go about doing that? :/

  • Ooooh, mardatha, what a beautiful puddy tat!

I have a query. I noticed my last two batches of muffins didn't rise as well as usual. I use cream of tartar and bicarb in a 2:1 ratio for baking powder, so checked the cr. of t. container - WELL out of date (best before Aug 2006 - eek!) - but has worked well until recently.

Trying to be OS, I don't want to waste it - does anyone know if you can use cream of tartar for anything else, like cleaning?
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!

    PIGSMAYFLY,

I am no legal expert but I think you may need a solicitor to organise that and to be sure the whole thing is watertight. Quite often solicitors offer a half hour free to give advice and the best course of action to recommend, it might be worth checking that out.

I'm not a solicitor either but have done it. You need to make a will and name her in the will as your daughter's guardian. If you don't make a will then, although she may still get the job if she is the best candidate, she may not get any funds to do it with as that will all go to your daughter when she comes of age. This might mean that they struggle through her childhood only for her to gain access to it when she comes of age.

It will also stop anyone else staking any kind of claim to her or any money / assets you may leave.

I haven't explained it well so i'll give you my example. My sister in law is our children's guardian. She has 2 children. So if she got our 2 children but no access to our estate she would have had to feed, clothe, school and house our children from her own funds. That would harm her and her family. By putting it in the will they would have access to our estate as long as it is used to benefit the children rather than themselves. They would be able to buy a bigger house but when our children came of age then they would sell it and give our children their share back. As well as that they would use our estate to provide other things that our children need. We have named other family members as executors and they will have to OK how the money gets spent.

  • Thank you so much bluebag and vjsmum. I never even thought of an executor, ummm this may complicate things as my family are a waste of space.. I will have to ponder a while. Thanks again, its always better to be safe then sorry. Also my abusive ex, my DD father is not named on the birth certificate so am I right in thinking he has no claims to her. I have previously had injunctions on him for me and my daughter before... long story short he isn't fit to look after a goldfish let alone a child. Sorry for all the questions guys. :)

As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) but if one doesnt name an executor or executors of a Will then the solicitor will do it - and charge accordingly:eek:.

Be careful of will writing services which offer to do you a will for free. They appoint themselves as executors and milk the estate by way of charges
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
