Have been burning pans lately so am on here waiting to see if the soda crystals have saved the 2 latest victims :rotfl: Got a tube of liquid glucose from Mr T today for 20p ...now if I can just remember what I wanted it for ...

If the soda don't work, try a dishwasher tablet, fill the pan with boiling water and add the tablet, leave overnight. If you have no dishwasher tabs or powder then use bio washing powder or gel.

Nah trying to fit too many things in at once :rotfl:

Sorry to post after the subject was a couple of days ago but I thought I would share my semi poached egg method with you. I heat a small amount of oil/butter/marg in a non stick frying pan or wok, then break an egg or two into it, as the egg starts to fry/turn white i add about half a cup full of boiling water and cover with a pan lid. I watch carefully and as soon as the white is cooked its ready. The eggs come out really nicely cooked.

Also on the subject of burnt pans (havent tried it though) I remember reading somewhere that coca cola and vinegar works.

Like me, always doing four things at once, sometimes it's less stress to buy cheapie pans and give them a full requiem mass at death.:rotfl:

Trying to be OS, I don't want to waste it - does anyone know if you can use cream of tartar for anything else, like cleaning?

winchelsea I am not sure what other uses there are for out of date cream of tartar but I bet someone on here will know.

    Hi Winchelsea,

The only time I've ever used cream of tartar is for making home-made 'play dough' with, which brought to mind the idea of making some salt dough Christmas :xmastree:decorations. If you feel the need to be crafty maybe that's one way you could use up the out of date cream of tartar.

Ginnyknit -is your pan a non-stick one? If not try cream cleaner - C*f or Hob*right or even Aj*x/V*m. I frequenly burn my stainless steel pans :o and after soaking and using the scraping edge of the washing-up brush to get rid of the detritus, the cream cleaner gets the remaining marks off.

If it is non-stick, just persisting with the dishwasher powder or biological washing powder will get it clean eventually.

ginnyknit I recommend using cheap cola to clean the pans. Bring it to the boil and then turn the heat off and leave it to soak for a while.

jedi- I hope your little boy is feeling much better and you can breath easier.

Mrs Veg Plot- I'm sure you know, but I suffer from high blood pressure and the thing that really sets it off is my salt intake increasing. I've had to cut right down and watch every processed thing I eat now. Cereal is one of the worst offenders.

Morning everyone from a cold and damp Leicester.
The whole family has been lacking any get up and go for several days now and I'm not quite sure why. Everything just seems like too much effort. I'm hoping once the monsters are back at school/college then the routine will help. Yesterday I did manage to pick some sloes and they are now in a jar with some sugar and Elderflower and Lemon schapps that I brought in Ikea. The stuff is vile by itself so I'm hoping this improves it. If not I'm only out the cost of the sugar. I also brought a kilo of strawberries and made 5 jars of strawberries in dark syrup. This started as a happy accident 2 years ago when my strawberry jam didn't set. So we ended up using it on pancakes, meringues, cakes and ice cream. It's Nigella's recipe for strawberry jam that you add balsamic vinegar to and it is glorious stuff. I hate strawberries and even I pour it on my pancakes.
I got £30 off my shopping bill yesterday thanks to multibuys in Tesco. They have 4 packs of tinned tomatoes on buy 1 get 2 free, so I stocked up. I'm not at GreyQueen levels yet, but I might have to go and buy 24 more tins. DH will have a fit, as we have nowhere to store them (Under the bed is taken up with boxes of books).
I might see if I can summon up the will to sort of the conservatory a bit. It's become a dumping ground, but lots of it is DH's stuff. Getting him on board to help is not going to be easy. Wish me luck xxxx
