Sounds like you're doing well lea. It's amazing how quickly the time goes by.
We've got the flowers to sort, I've found what I want on eBay just need to order them which I'll probably do october. The suits to book but will probably do that next year. Then just odd bits and pieces really, i think, i really beed to go through my list and statt putting dates against whats left.
We'll be giving out notice soon, I can't wait because it'll all seem real then.
Oh I need to get another bridesmaid dress as I now have another two bridesmaids making a total of 1 maid of honour, 3 bridesmaids, 2 junior bridesmaids and 1 flowergirl. How many bridesmaids is everyone else having?0 -
I'm having 4 bridesmaids and a page boy and a flower girl (my daughter who will be nearly 3)
my bridesmaids are happy to pay for own dresses, their choice not mine but it is a cost off my mind!!

Welcome Lea! As Lisa said, it sounds like you are doing well. I have booked a lot already but that was only really because I was off work after an operation in April so had a lot of free time on my hands!
Lisa I am having a maid of honour and 3 bridesmaids. I'd like my maid of honours daughter as a flowergirl, but she will only be 2 when we get married so we aren't sure how compliant she will be! I decided on the short sage green bridesmaid dresses from BHS, and have managed to buy 6 on eBay and a wedding forum, all in great condition, for £140. I've got various sizes so they will fit everyone and I will sell on the ones we don't use.
My future in laws came down to visit this weekend, although it was a bit tricky as Paul (future hubby) and I don't live together yet (although we will be in a few weeks) so we took over my brothers flat for the weekend. We showed them around the venues, as they had not seen them yet, and they liked them. We had a bit of a heated discussion over whether or not to include details of our wedding gift list on the invitations (I don't want to as I think it's a little presumptuous, and would rather tell people if they ask) but future MIL wants us to as she said otherwise people would be phoning her asking what we want as gifts. Does anyone here have an idea of what they might do?
We keep changing our mind on what to do about a wedding cake! We weren't going to have one, and get the venue to make up a dessert cheesecake as a wedding cake for us. However we have succumbed to some pressure from parents and have decided to order one from M&S. We will be getting Sky when we move in to our new house, and they are doing an offer to get £100 voucher at the moment, which will pay for half of it. One of the websites I use for surveys pays out in M&S vouchers too, so I'm hoping I can do enough to pay for it completely!
We have also decided to have a Toastmaster, on recommendation from friends, so went to a Wedding Fayre today and met one who we will contact and enquire about costs.
I got a few more glass bits for our sweet buffet, and have started to buy sweets as the dates are getting later. I so far have 4 bags of Maom chews from a special offer in Tesco, 3 bags of mini Chupa Chups from a special offer in Poundland and 3 bags of flying saucers. Getting it bit by bit from places like that along with other shopping doesn't seem as bad, but I am adding everything to my budget!
I feel a bit like there seems to be more and more that we haven't thought about (even though I thought we had included more than we needed!), and that things are costing more than we had estimated. I feel like we've done a really good job at haggling and getting bargains so far, but that I still might struggle a bit with saving!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
I have got three grown up bridesmaids - my sister and two friends, then 2 of OH's nieces as little brideamaids and our dd as our flowergirl, she will be 2. Not buying the little ones dresses till nearer the time as not sure about whether they will have growth spurts. Been given a flower girl dress i can use for dd but think she will be too small for it as she is a tiny thing.
Laura - we are having an m and s cake. I have seen posts before about them being on 3 for 2 sometimes so definately keep a look out.
Feel like we need to be more organised, only 11 months to go now eek.0 -
How is everyone doing?
My Dad has booked the car that we will be travelling in to the wedding so thats one thing done.
I am also in the process of booking the DJ. Was given a recomendation by the venue and they seem very helpful and willing to meet up before to chat about the music we want etc. We will also be hiring the equipment from them to play music during ceremony and meal. Just got to send a deposit off.
Has anyone booked their honeymoon? Ours won't be a traditional one as we are taking our daughter and my parents but having a look at the carribean at the moment.0 -
can i join?
were gtting married on the 5th July,
So far have booked the ceremony, and the honeymoon...
we dont want a sit down reception so are looking to take over a pub for the evening... which is proving difficult.0 -
Of coruse you can.
Thats annoying about the pub, you would think that wouldn't be too hard!0 -
Hi GrowingUp, is there any local clubs you could use? for example in the town where I live there are working mens clubs, football clubs and a cricket club which can all be hired, usually quite cheaply too.
We're not having a traditional honeymoon either Wendz. Probably going to have a couple of days away during the week (thinking either whitby or york) and then going to plan a holiday for us and our two daughters, I want to take them to either legoland or disneyland but will think about the destination closer to the date.
I booked our appointment to give notice for the 5th October, I have no idea why but I'm a little nervous and excited. Has anyone else done it yet? what happens? We were told to allow an hour for the appointment, I can't help but wonder if I should be brushing up on my general knowledge of OH and his likes/dislikes haha.
We've ordered our flowers and are waiting for them to be made and posted. I've also been making buttonholes for the family guests, it's a lot easier than I thought it would be. They're not perfect but OH and I are happy with and I'm sure our family will be too. So far I have made 10 mens and 2 ladies, I'm going to make 20 of each which will be more than we need.
It works out it will have cost around 32p each to make the mens and around 44p each to make the ladies.0 -
They are really pretty Lisa! What are you making them with?
When OH and I gave notice, we had to do it separately as we live in different counties (although only until next week!!) OH went first, and although he checked all the details with me first (ie. double checking spelling of ceremony venue, time, how I spell my middle name and my DOB!!) I was still getting texts from him to confirm!! When I went in for my appointment a few days later they had access to what he had done, so all I had to do was show my documents, confirm everything and sign. Payment had to be made in cash. I was in for less time that OH was. Then had to go back something like 14 days later to pick up the license and take it to the Registry office where we are getting married - so ours was quite long winded as we were different areas.
Wendz - we have booked a honeymoon to Mexico for 10 nights, which is a lot more extravagant (and expensive!) that I originally wanted, but really can't wait now. I managed to haggle some money off with the travel agent (First Choice) and am using Thomson gift vouchers that I can buy that add 4% value, as I work for the NHS. We are going to the El Dorado Royale in Riveria Maya.
We have been very busy with sorting out somewhere to live for the last month or so, so haven't managed to get much done. We get the keys to our new (rented) house on Friday, and can't wait!! Once we are living together it will all seem so much more real, and we will be able to focus on the wedding more.
OH bought me a 'wedding fund' money tin in January, and as it felt like it was getting full, I couldn't wait any longer and opened it a few weeks ago - there was nearly £300 in there!! We were very pleased. I have now replaced it and am hoping there will be a decent amount in there once it is opened!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
Exciting about the giving notice. We need to book ours but my OH has had hardly any time off during the summer but more time off now so will hopefully do it in the next month.
The buttonholes are gorgeous Lisa, well done on making them!
Mexico sounds amazing Laura. Exciting about the moving in together as well.
The wedding savings are taking a hit at the moment for car stuff which is a pain buit hoping we can build them back up again.0
