We had a good christmas thanks Laura. Our little girl loved all her presents and was nice seeing family.

That is nice of your SIL! I am borrowing my veil from my manager at work (we are friends as well) . Was just like the one i tried on in the shop and saves some money!

To all the July 2013 brides (and grooms?)
Well this is it... this is your year!! Can you believe it? It is finally here!! I promise you that the next 7 months will both fly by and crawl by at the same time. You'll be wishing your big day to come quicker then when it's here you'll look back and think where on earth did that time go!! :)
I (and probably all the other July 2012 brides) wish you all a fantastic day. May it be everything you dream it will be; and may the things that go wrong being forgotten about in an instant the moment you see him waiting for you at the end of the aisle.
    Love
    MrsD

Thank you MRSDrink, is so exciting!

I have ordered some shoes from Debenhams. I am not sure on them as they are a pinky colour and while they go with the colour scheme I am not sure how they will look with the dress. They were only £14 though in the sale and got another 10% off so seemed a risk worth doing.
  • I'm sure they'll look lovely. Are they a dusky pink, or abit darker/ brighter?

I'm not a heel person at all, so I'm trying to scout around online for some lower heel type ones. I'm about 5'3 though whereas OH is 6'2 lol, so maybe I should try for some heels and learn how to wear them :D

    They are a dusky pink.

Mine aren't too high(i hope). I also have a tall OH (6ft4), i am 5ft6. I just want them to be comfy as would be no fun if my feet were in pain.

    Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and new year.

It’s so exciting to think that this year is our year and finally we can say “July this year” when someone asks when we’re getting married.

I haven’t really done much since I was last on here as we’ve moved house, got a new kitten and then there was Christmas but I intend to start back with the preparations this weekend.

We have decided to use our existing invitations and just doctor them somehow, I’m going to try using an insert to cover the existing details and see how that looks. The evening invitations I will design on Publisher and print our own I think. We're sending our invitations out in March too Wendz.

I still have the corsages and the buttonholes for the guests to finish making and the pins to put in the centre of the other flowers. I’ve started writing a list of things to do with dates against each item so I can get myself a little more organised.

We’ve decided that if we do have chair covers they will only be for the top table as it’s £400 we don’t really have at the moment and if we did it could be better spent elsewhere.

OH has finally decided that the men will wear their own suits and we will provide them with ties so I now need to find some nice ties in burgundy.

Oh and I need to start losing some weight! I’ve downloaded the my fitness pal and map my walk apps to start calorie counting and have ordered the 30 day shred DVD which should be arriving today. I want to lose half a stone by my birthday (beginning of April) and to have lost a stone by the time I have the final fitting for my dress (about a month before the wedding?). I have no idea if this is realistic or not but it’s worth a try.

I was supposed to have my hair trial next Friday but have rescheduled it for April as I feel it’s a little early, I have no idea what I want except I don't want it all up.... I think :o I’ll be doing my own make up so will be practising on a weekend with my new brushes OH got me for Christmas.

I don't think I replied to the photo of your flowers Wendz, they are lovely and your shoes sound lovely too, do you have a link or pic? :)

I've got my shoes, 2 inch heels in white. I got them off ebay for £12.99.

Well actually I have 2 pairs, the first pair (in the pic) are Ivory and my dress is white, my mum said it didn't really matter as they would be under my dress and no one would know but I would so I bought them in white too. I was thinking of trying to dye the ivory pair if it goes wrong it doesn't really matter as I'd never wear them in ivory.

We had a lovely Christmas thanks Laura, what a lovely gesture from your SiL.

What is everyone else doing regards hair and make up?
  • Wendz, those will look great I'm sure, thats a lovely colour!

Lisajane, yours are pretty, I'm not a shoe person at all (I live in comfy trainers/ walking shoes), but am starting to have a real appreciation for them now :)

I'm not sure what to do with my hair, I did do a post asking for suggestions but no one's replied. I don't want to wear mine up either, I always wear it down. It really doesn't suit my face shape being up, so will go for something down.

I quite like the idea of something that cascades around my face, but I've got fine hair so it's not got much volume to it. Will prob go with extenstions, but finding a cheap hairdresser for it is proving a nightmare. People hear the word wedding and start adding magical numbers up out of nowhere. Don't they know I'm an MSE-er!! :D
  • Thank you MrsD for those lovely words!

Wendz - I'm sure the shoes will be lovely, and let us know how you get on with them once you get them. I have opted for a pair from Next which I bought a few months ago, and am still yet to try them on with my dress! Someone on a thread here mentioned them, and I searched so many Next stores to find them, and rejected so many because they had flaws! I'm really happy with them as they are quite comfy, have quite a small heel and were about £30.

Lisajane, that's a good idea about setting yourself dates and targets and stuff. I also think your chair cover idea is a good one, and it will help to make the top table that little bit more special too :) That's good news about the mens suits too. I felt VERY un-MSE as OH handed over his credit card to pay for half of the suit hire a few weeks ago - it is costing us £608 to hire 7 suits!

I also need to lose a bit of weight, and was thinking of ordering the 30 Day Shred DVD! Literally as I'm typing this, OH is looking at my Amazon wishlist (it's my birthday on the 12th Jan and he's panicking looking for presents!) and that DVD is on there. He has just said that if he gets it for me he will do it with me... He's just reading the info now!! I lost about half a stone before Christmas, and appear to have put most of it back on again!

My cousin has kindly said she will do my hair for the wedding. She isn't a hairdresser but has done it for a few of her friends when they got married. I think I'm going to go for the half up/half down and curly look. I have to wear my hair tied back in a bun at work and like to wear it down when I go out, and thought this might be something a little bit different. I'm not sure if she is going to do my make up or if I'll do it, but I got given a £25 House of Fraser voucher for Christmas which I plan to put towards a decent foundation, so will go and try and get a bit of a makeover at some point.

I have made up an invitation on Vistaprint, but want to run it past my Mum before I go ahead and order any. I'm not sure if I've got the best deal with them at the moment, I think it was something like £37 for 60 invitations and 80 envelopes on 7 day postage. I don't think I've ever paid for anything on Vistaprint so it seems REALLY expensive!!

OH and I have asked a friend each to do a reading at the ceremony, and they have both said yes, which is nice. I have chosen Pam Ayres 'Yes, I'll Marry You' which has me smiling every time I read it, and my friend really liked it too. Not sure what the other one will be! Does anyone have any ideas about any readings yet?

    These are my shoes:050010522021?
Got them today and they fit and look nice so just need to try with dress. Just noticed they have gone down to £8.40 but at least i only paid £12.

Your shoes are lovely Lisajane and sounds like your shoes are too Laura.

I am getting my hair and make up done but haven't found anyone to do it yet. I am also going for the half up, half down curly look.

That is great you have your cousin to do your hair Lisa, wish i knew someone!

I think sometimes with vistaprint if you leave something in your basket they reduce the price so might be worth doing that.

I like that reading, am debating having that one. I can't decide who to do my readings. Might ask my sister but she is already chief bridesmaid so doing quite a lot.
  • Those shoes are really pretty Wendz! I remember looking at them debating getting them for the bridesmaids, but have decided they can wear what they like now as long as they are comfortable!

OH and I sorted the wedding rings out today :D I thought I would have to have one made to fit my engagement ring as it is an emerald cut, but found one in the sale in Beaverbrooks which fits and I love it. It was also down in the sale, £550 down to £236 so really pleased as I never would have bought it at £550. OH got a titanium one, he found one he liked the feel of so we got that, only to get home and try it on again to be a bit big! So need to swap that, but they said that would be ok. I had to order mine as the didn't have my size, so will swap his when I collect mine.

We bought all the mens cufflinks on eBay today. Found a seller who does them in different colours, and got them in green, and it looks very similar to our colour scheme so we are happy about that. They were also only £4.65 a pair! I also bought bags for the bridesmaids, BHS is selling off all last years wedding stuff so I got them all the bags which match their dresses.

Feel like we are getting a bit more sorted now! Although we are still yet to decide on the string quartet. As we have saved £200 from the budget on the wedding rings it seems a bit more affordable now, but still can't decide!

So things still left to do are:
    -Decide on string quartet
    -Decide on invitations
    -Sort hotels for guests
-Sort hotel for us for wedding night
-Book chair covers (we have a quote and just waiting for samples)
    -Decide on and buy gifts
-Order cake (nearer the time as M&S)
    -Decide on and practise hair
    -Buy and practise make up

Then pay for it all!!! :rotfl:
