Yay on the wedding rings. Sounds like you got a good deal.
I would go for the string quartet if you really want it, you might regret it if not.
Your list to do doesn't look too bad Laura, still got quite a lot on mine but mainly little things.
I ordered scoops for the sweet buffet and a holder for the table plan as well yesterday.0 -
Ok, it's my own fault for not snapping it up when I was able to, but our choice for the wedding ceremony is now fully booked for 2013, I'm gutted.
We've been dithering about not getting stuff sorted, and have now lost out to someone else. Really upset, but it's all my fault for not acting sooner. Going to have to sort a new one out and this was the only one we both liked.0 -
Wendz - that's really good it's mostly little things left on our list. I am really worried about finding the hotels for our guests, hotels in Oxford in the height of summer are not cheap!
We are having a sweet buffet too, although we have far too much glassware now! Bought a few jars and bowls from Ikea, then a couple of bits from a car boot, and a set of jars from BHS, then mum got quite a few filled jars which they had in Matalan before Christmas. So no shortage of sweets! We've bought most of them now as the dates were good, but I'm sure we'll decide on more nearer the time!
Justengaged - I'm so sorry to hear that the venue you wanted is no longer available. Is there any way you can ask about cancellations or anything? I know what it's like to love a venue and then not be able to have it - we were similar in that we really loved one venue, totally fell in love with it, then totalled it up and it was too expensive, and too far out of town etc. so we went for the venue we have now. I'm sure things will work out for you. Did you do a very thorough list of ceremony venues? We thought we had, then looked on the council website for approved venues and found a lot more than we thought. Good luck and keep us posted xxxMFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
I've asked for them to keep in touch with any cancellations, but it's unlikely there'll be one for the day we want, which is our anniversary.
I'll have a look for council approved venues though see if something else looks nice, thanks.0 -
Sorry to hear about the venue Justengaged , hope something comes up that you like.
We are going to ikea to get jars for our buffet soon, also seen they do 4 tealight holders for a pound which i think will be good for our tables.
I can imagine hotels in Oxford are expensive! A couple of people have started looking at hotels for mine and the travelodge about 4 miles away is only £20 at the moment. Isn't exactly a sought after location!
I have been looking at my hen do with my sister. Have found a weekend that all my main friends can do in May so just organising now. We are going to Brighton and my sisters friend has a place there that do afternoon tea and a craft and she has given us a good price if we bring our own wine and cakes etc so looks good!0 -
Aww Justengaged that’s awful news, I hope you find somewhere you like just as much.
Wendz your shoes are lovely, I sometimes think I should have gone for a pair I could wear again but I spend most of my time in flat boots or plimsoles and have a load of heels I rarely wear so another pair would sit gathering dust.
That’s great news about your wedding rings Laura, I bought mine last September when OH bought me a new engagement ring. Turns out I’m allergic to gold so we went to Pandora and I picked a silver ring I liked and saw the wedding ring I wanted so bought it straight away. I think OH was extremely happy since both rings only cost him £85 but I like them and with them both being silver I will no doubt need new ones in the future. I would eventually like platinum but that’s a little out of our price range at the moment but hopefully one day. OH picked a tungsten carbide ring, I couldn’t believe how heavy it was but it shouldn’t scratch or wear away. I agree with Wndz, if you rally want the string quartet then go for it.
I got a great deal with my hairdresser, at the moment she’s doing hair for bride and up to 4 bridesmaids for £100 if you book in January. I was already paying £75 for Mine and my daughter and step daughters so have asked if I could add another two bridesmaids and still use the offer. My hairdresser said yes so I have booked my two cousins in too, bridesmaids hair is normally £30 each so I’m over the moon. I thought since they were coming from America it would be a nice treat for them and saves them the stress of having to do their own hair. I also decided whilst I was speaking to her that I would have a makeup trial when I have my hair trial. The only thing that really put me off was that I have skin that gets spots easily from makeup, so for the last 4 years I have rarely used anything more than concealer. I have the trials on the 9th February so I’m a little excited to say the least :j
We’re having balloon centre pieces and I really should go and have a look at what we want in case we need to put some more money aside, my nana has paid £100 already, anything over that we will pay.
My mum also told me last night that by May she will have £500 to give us to put towards the wedding which was unexpected, she said she wishes she could give us more but I’m really grateful for her offer. I’ve decided that we will use the money to pay for a fancier buffet for the daytime guests which will leave a little money left over for a sponge cake.
I’ve just found out my friends fiance does cakes so I am going to ask him if he could ice the two fruit cakes my nana has made and if he would make us a two tier sponge cake. He also does toppers so I’m hoping he will be able to make us a topper for the sponge cake too. We already have one for the fruit cake but I would love a zombie theme one for the sponge cake.
I also started my 30 day shred yesterday and must admit I don’t feel too bad today although I know I will be feeling it tomorrow. I’ve decided I’m going to do it every day (well I’m sure there will be a day here and there where I won’t do it) until I hit the weight I want and then do it every 2-3 days to maintain. I tried my dress on at the weekend and really need to lose at least three inches off my waist to fit into my dress
I haven’t even thought about a hen do yet, not sure if my sister has.... maybes that’s something I should add to my list of things to do0 -
Your rings sound lovely Lisajane . We don't want to spend much on our wedding rings so hope can find ones we like for a good price.
That is lovely of your mum to offer the money towards the wedding, i'm sure that will really help.
I went to ikea this weekend and got jars for sweets and also loads of tea lights and tea light holders for the table.
Tried my shoes on with dress at my Mums and i think looks good so going with the shoes.0 -
Hey guys, best of luck for 2013, we're putting the wedding back a year so I'll be joining the 2014-ers instead. Actually seems to be working out for the best, another year won't hurt so all the best to you for July 2013 - want to see loads of piccies afterwards though!!!0
-
Hope everything works out well for you. If it working out for the best then thats great0

Hope everything goes well justengaged, I shall keep an eye out for your piccies
Well looks like after all this planning we may not be getting married. OH has just told me that he can only guarantee giving me £300 for the wedding which leaves is £900 short. I've suggested just having the day time doo as the pub we're having the reception in could move us to the lounge and we could just stay in there until people start to drift off home and then celebrate with friends at a BBQ. OH wants to postpone, thing is I have family coming from America and they won't come again if we were to postpone. I feel like a tamtruming child but have told him we either get married 6th July or not at all. Absolutely gutted but having my family there is the most important thing to me, I just wish he'd told me sooner instead of leaving it until now. I'm meeting with my mum on Sunday to try and come up with a plan but I'm not getting my hopes up
Hope everyone else's plans are coming along well and I'll keep you all updated.0
