Sounds like you are doing well Laura, is nice your Dad got to choose the car.

Honeymoon sounds fab too and well done on haggling, I am rubbish at doing it.

My Dad has got a work friend whose husband has an old ford car (can't remember what make it is) and he is going to find out how much it will be.

wendz - the dress sounds lovely! Do you have shoes yet? What style of shoe do you prefer? Ohh, hearing about your dress, makes me want to go try dresses on! I have about 5 more pounds to lose, before I will go. I wanted to set a goal weight before I would go dress shopping, and I'm so close, but getting impatient now! haha

laura - thanks for the welcome! I do feel as though it is going to be very chilled, and we don't have much to arrange for a while yet, so it's nice just thinking about it. Me and OH both have HUGE families, but we will invite them all to the party after the honeymoon, it would just cost us far too much to have everyone there, and we really love the idea of something low key.

Oh wow! Mexico! Fantastic! What date will you go on honeymoon? I have been looking at Hawaii, Las Vegas and New York (to name but a few :rotfl:) I've been on secretescapes website, and voyage prstige to try and look for deals, but they are late booking offers really, but its nice to look and dream haha!

Good news on the cars, be a nice treat for bridesmaids on the day, it's little things like sorting out the cars and things, get you thinking about the actual day and I get really giddy! I'm like a kid!

Oh my andrew is half scottish aswell, I forgot to mention that, so deciding on a kilt or suit is going to be a big decision. He keeps joking that the day he marries me will be the only day he will be wearing a skirt...and people jibe saying get used to it...you'll no longer wear the trousers...:rotfl:but he does LOVE a suit, and feels very smart and comfortable and confident when he wears one. So he is on the fence at the mo, he hasn't ever worn a kilt, and he has said if he goes to try the whole get up on and doesn't like - it will for sure be a suit! I have no issue with this, I want him to be comfortable!

Andyslinz - We are going on honeymoon on the 23rd July, which gives us a couple of days in between, as we didn't really want to rush off afterwards. We were originally planning on having just a week away to begin with and going to New York in the December so we had something to look forward to when we got back, but a lot of friends said we would want more than a week away by ourselves. Once we had decided on Mexico we didn't think a week was long enough, so settled on 10 nights! Can't wait, that's what I'm looking forward to most at the moment!!! We booked it through First Choice, and got them to do it at a cheaper price than it was on the internet. I also work for the NHS and there's a website I can use to get money off gift vouchers, and Thomson (who own First Choice) are one of the companies, so we will be paying it using that!!

My brother is an usher at our wedding, and keeps trying to persuade Paul that the men should wear kilts.... Paul is of Irish heritage, and there is a family tartan, but I think my brother is just doing it as he was an usher at a wedding in Scotland previously and he liked having the sporran to put his hip flask in!

I bought an academic diary today from Poundland, so I can start writing in the dates that everything needs to be paid next year! Paul and I are going to start writing everything in it at the weekend, so it's all in one place.

I've had a couple of quotes from florists now, and I had seriously underestimated the cost of flowers :( I had budgeted £700 and one quote came back as £1300, the other at £1100-1200. I really don't think I can justify spending this amount of money on flowers. I keep thinking about doing them ourselves, but none of us are really artistic enough to do them!! I'm planning on going to a garden centre in the next couple of weeks to see what pot plants are around this time of year and have them as table decorations instead, that way it should bring the cost down a bit. I think I will look into silk flowers and lanterns again as well. I keep thinking about balloons, but we have a few guests who are scared of balloons, and don't want to freak them out!!!

No shoes yet, not really sure what style i want yet but was thinking i might look end of summer see if there are any bargains around. Think i might also get some flats for the evening.

I was brave and got my dress in the size that fits me, they recommend that you get it a size bigger in case you gain weight but now at least i know i can't gain any!I would like to lose half a stone ideally but we will see.

The academic diary sounds like a good idea, might have to do that.

Eek i haven't budgeted much for flowers. I really only want boquets and button holes and maybe something for top table as we are going to do mini arrangements in jars for the tables.

    Hi everyone,

hope the planning is going well. Hi Andyslinz, welcome to the thread. Loving it's now starting to get posted on more.

We went for Sunday dinner at our venue at the weekend for my Nana's birthday, though it would be a great oppertunity to see if the dinners were still gorgeous.

Everything looked lovely and the beef and pork were both delicious but the veggies were awful, the carrots tasted like they were out of a tin (I do like tinned carrots but paying the price we did I would have expected better), the cauliflower and broccoli cheese tasted like water, the parsnips were awful, the cabbage tastless, in fact the only veg which was ok were the roasties and the mash (which will have been powder). I was really disappointed and we are now considering having a fork buffet, I would be really upset if I had paid £13 ph for what we got.

On the plus side I ordered my final flower girl dress and OH wedding ring. He wanted a tungsten carbide ring so he can wear it for work without it getting scratched. Hoping to order the flowers at the end of the month and book the balloons for the reception.

almost forgot, I get to go and look at the venue the 29th as they have finished refurbishing it. It'll be set up like it would for the ceremony, I'm so excited as I can't actually remember what it looks like inside (I haven't been there for at least 6 years), if I can I'll take some pics and post them up.

Well I'm off to go and buy myself an academic diary too on my way home (such a great idea thanks laura).

I had asked the florist for a LOT of flowers (brides bouquet, 4 bridesmaids, 7 buttonholes, 3 corsages, 2 pedestals, registrar/top table arrangement and 10 table centrepieces) so looking back now, £700 was never going to be enough!! We could stretch our budget for this, but it really is a lot of money. I think we will probably cut back on the pedestals (it's not a church wedding, and the ceremony room has gorgeous chandeliers so there will be something to look at!) and probably not have flowers on the tables.

I'm intrigued by your jar arrangements, do you know what you are going to put in them yet?

We wanted to leave booking anything properly until the registrar is booked officially, as it can't really go ahead without them! I guess you can look into options and provisionally book people, telling them that you can make your booking once it is completely confirmed.

If you are concrete on the date, I can't see a problem with booking photographers, bands etc, as it's a completely seperate contract with them - in a nice way, they're not bothered if you're getting married, having a party or just fancy a posh evening as long as they're getting paid for it!

We are concrete on our date but need it confirmed as our venue will not pencil us in without it,, our reception hotel has us pencilled in luckily but thats all we have done,,

Week tomorrow i can call registrar & book,, but since we are scottish we have to come south of the border & live for a week before we are awarded our marriage licences,, strange.
