Sorry July 2012 bride here butting in :rotfl:

andyslinz which venue in Gretna have you chosen. We get married there in less than three weeks

We have chose the Blacksmiths Workshop and although it has a capacity of 60 we were assured that our small gathering of 14 guests including Bride and Groom would suit the room just fine.

Which venue have you chosen? Have you got a hotel/reception there too? We have got the Gables hotel

We get married at Springkell House which is huge really in comparison to our numbers but love it. Then hotel and meal at Dryfesdale Hotel. When we booked Springkell didnt have the option to have hotel and meal rhere but it does now. The bureau are fab and will help you with anything you need

I rang up the registrar to check they could do it first and then booked the venue and then provisionally booked the registrar, had to pay £60 but can't actually do the official bit till its a year to go. I guess it probably depends on your council.

With the flowers in jars we are just collecting any jam jars and then going to put 3 or 4 differrnt jars on a table with a different type of flower in each. Something like the below bottom right picture but in jam jars:

We are going for a sort of spring/country style so will go well with it i think.

Wendz those flowers look lovely. One florist mum and I met with said she had a couple who had used lots of jars for their table decorations, but not sure it would have fitted with our venue. If you are struggling for jars have a look and see if you have a scrapstore nearby (http://scrapstoresuk.org/) - I only found out about these places last week while watching Superscrimpers, went to one locally to my parents yesterday and they had loads of jars! I got a lovely blank book to use as our guest book and some fantastic quality material to use for various things, for the bargain price of £4!

OH and I have been and seen the registrars to give notice now! Our marriage license will be available to collect on the 13th August (I think - should double check!) so that's another thing sorted. When we made our provisional booking we were told that we had to give notice after 20/07/2012 but before 20/08/2012, and that the date would only be confirmed once the notice had been given. Our venues were happy to take the bookings with a provisional booking, and we will let them know when it is confirmed.

It's now less than a year to go for most of us now! Anyone getting more excited as the year mark passes?

Thanks, will have to check that out. My Mum is busy collecting them.

Exciting about giving notice Laura. I need to find a date we can go but my OH is working at the olympics so a bit busy at the moment.

It definately feels more real now its less than a year to go!

Went to look at bridesmaid dresses wednesday as my bridesmaid who lives in Australia was over and only chance we would have before she comes over for wedding. I have found a definate possibility on coast but is quite pricy so am going to hold on and looks like last nov/dec they had 25% off so hoping they will do the same and will still have the dress. My sister tried it on too but still need to get my other bridesmaid to try it. Is actually a different colour to what i originally wanted but i like the colour and the one i want is near impossible to find.

How exciting Laura, I can't wait to give notice but will probably have to wait until October as OH is working 7 days a week at the moment. We went to see our venue today. Had a bit of a disaster as OH didn't ask his boss for some time off to come in so had a little bridezilla moment but he ended up coming after a little heart to heart. I'm not really sure if it's my perfect place, it's nice but didn't make me go wow. I took some photos to keep looking over.

  • Wow Lisa, that is gorgeous! And although it may not make you feel 'wow' while it is empty, I'm sure once it is filled with all your loved ones it will do. I love the chandeliers and the ceiling, and it looks really light.

Wend - with Coast dresses, don't forget the department stores who have Coast within them, as they have lots of money off events, and may even be able to order online and get cashback through one of the cashback sites if you know which sizes you need. I have ordered a few wedding things by going through the cashback websites first, and any money I have in there is going towards the honeymoon fund :D

Thanks Laura and wendz, after having a couple of days off from wedding stuff, thinking/talking about the wedding I feel a lot happier with it. I'm going back there tomorrow with the kids for a wall round the museum so will get another chance to have a look and hopefully take a few more photos.

I got my first RSVP back, even though all I've sent was the save the dates, 4 of my guests are on holiday on that date so I can upgrade 4 evening guests already.
