Apple stores commonly give out free new/nearly new replacement iphones even if you have accidently damaged your iphone and its still under warranty. Obviously this isn't guaranteed and to stop people abusing this, it makes sense for them to state that they will charge for accidental damage in their T&C's. No need to send them £50, just a thank you card and a bunch of cheap flowers will do
