    Hi all,

    I've finally joined costco!

I was wondering, as I've never been there before, what things are best bought from there and what's best left to supermarkets, markets etc??

So can I have a list of goodies and baddies from costco please! Thanks.

I think there is a few treads on this about but I can't be bothered to search lol

Good: Soft drinks, wine, some spirits, fresh meat, fresh fish, cheese, washing powder, clothes, fridge freezers etc, ehhh the list goes on...

Bad... Beer... can usually find cheaper on offer somewhere. Some frozen foods - good quality though but not always cheapest.
Check locally for special offers and compare

One thing they ARE great for though is tyres and fitting :) Oh and chocolate muffins, and pizza and pain au chocolate and oreo's and sweets and.... you get the idea ;)

Oh not so good on price... fresh veg... some of it is ok priced (like spuds and onions and garlic) but others like fruit seems to be pricey like yesterday we found the water melons were nearly twice the price of Mr T... shock horror!

Memory cards can be found cheaper on amazon, DVDs and games can usually be found cheaper online on one site or another :)

  • bin bags, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, soft drinks, orange and apple juices, baking potatoes, pork steaks, mince, beefburgers, chicken thighs, wrapping paper, hand made greetings cards, paracetamol, ibuprofen, tampax, dried herbs and spices, pitta bread, bake at home baguettes and wine are all things which I think are much cheaper there. Fresh fruit and veg is the same as, if not a bit dearer than supermarkets but the quality is infinitely superior - it is really top notch for taste and keeping time. Also the electrical stuff if not generally cheaper, but the stuff is top of the range, they do have some good special offers and their returns policy is the world's best! I bought a microwave, had it for over a year and broke the glass turntable. One time I was in the store and asked if they had the same microwave in stock. They did so I bought one. At the till I told the girl about the glass turntable and she said to bring it back and I would get a refund - I brought it back and got my money back without a comment, AND I had lost the receipt.

the meat is very nice, perhaps a bit more expensive than tesco / asda etc, but well worth the extra, i won't buy meat anywhere else.

the carrot cake is delicious too  mmmm i could just go a slice (or two!)

various offers & promotions run thoughout the year, leaflets are usually at the entrance

Meat is fantastic, we used to buy the steaks and they looked expensive for 3 but they were always so thick I cut them in half and made them 6.
