Whats Costco like?

we shop at costco too and we buy
loo rolls which we also keep in the loft, washing powder depending on what's on offer at the time kept in shed, chicken breasts and if feeling flush joint of beef which i cut into smaller joints to last weeks, the chicken breasts i divide into 3 and bag for the freezer. Also good are the jars of bolognaise and swedish meatballs. Keep a firm eye on the purse though as you can get carried away.0 -
Their returns policy on electrical goods is second to none. Their Opticians is pretty good (at ours anyway) Some interesting American prducts available too, lovely Christmas stuff, and summer garden stuff. Go have a look. We reckon we've easily had our membership fee back from them, even though with shopping around you can often do better on many standard groceries. Pain au chocolat MMMM

Actually went to Costco today on way to DD's. She just had third baby last week so thought it useful to stock on up soap powder, Comfort, toilet roll etc for them. Not always the cheapest (we worked out today that Tesco's own fabric conditioner when on offer slightly cheaper) worked out with the same bulk size of Comfort; Tesco's non-bio on offer worked out slightly cheaper than huge bulk Fairy I bought this morning. But, you must take in the convenience fact for her as it will now be difficult to shop with 3 kids 4 years and under. Also, when paying for home delivery this has to be factored in, and I was buying big branded goods rather than 'own' stuff.
I have a trade card so can go any time. I might add Morrisons have a really good offer on just now for either coke or pepsi (can't remember which) and DH thought he had done well getting BOGOF yesterday at about 20p a can for the diet stuff. I got Pepsi Max at Costco today cheaper that he did!!!!!
I tend to buy my chopped tomatoes at Lidls at under 20p a can (and kidney beans) and don't have a problem with quality at all. In fact when looking at state of tins in Costco today they looked quite bashed in the bulk pack.
Cartons of fresh organge juice - bought a twelve pack today. I think good value. Princes I think but a good price for a branded good. Got 4 x 6 pack of Heinz Baked Beans for DD which worked out about 99.98 p for a four pack! Really good value for a branded produce. We have both tried value baked beans to TBH would rather try and then go get Heinz at a £1 for 4 tins than go cheap!
Costco is like everywhere else I think. You have to be price aware. Not buying in bulk is always the best option and you do have to always factor in the membership fee and the thought you don't have to get elsewhere to buy products.!
Hope this helps

Hi Catz
Good to speak to you here too!
Yes, we have the loft groaning because the storage is often the problem too! I forgot to mention I also bought Virgin Olive Oil and left a couple with DD too! Herbs and spices great because we use a lot of them and forgot to say I think batteries a good buy - DH and us get through a lot between toys there (with DD - DH ran out of battery power when photographing new DGS3 yesterday!!) and here, plus my DH's hobby. Has anyone mentioned this very much with the carbon footprint and batteries?? Picked up another huge pack of 36 today but we go through double A's at the rate of knots!

I absolutely love Costco, their organic tinned tomatoes are great value (I use them to batch cook pasta sauce) as is their meat and fish as it is such good quality.
Shamefully, and not very OS I know, but I spent £6 on a huge punnet of yellow cherries as a treat from Costco last week but they were the most delicious cherries I ever tasted.
They are also cheap for branded SD cards and memory sticks, you can buy cheaper online but they tend to be johnny-no-make and die within a month (or maybe I am just unlucky)0 -
So glad you posted this Midlands Fairy as we are considering taking a trip to one.
Unfortunately our nearest one is about 1hr 30 mins away so we have to factor in the petrol, etc.
I am after some Birkenstocks which I believe they sell.
Also can anyone tell me if they sell large bottles of distilled white vinegar at a good price?
Thanks.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Clutterfee Do you have a T K Maxx near you? Because my local one has lots of Birkenstocks in at the moment.0

They do indeed. I bought mine last week (rose pink) for £20.32 - £17.29 plus VAT
I'm still wearing last year's pair (white), but they're at deaths door as I wear them all year round, plus as slippers at home. Costco is by far the cheapest place to get them, but I find that I have to get a size smaller than usual.0 -
HAve to agree with everyone else, you have to be price aware but then that is for everywhere. Trouble is it is easy to assume costco (or Makro in fact) are cheaper and they aren't always. It is best for the non-perishable stuff as you jsut plough your way through that but it is soooo tempting to buy the fresh food. The bakery used to do the most gorgeous ciabatta but sadly they seemed to have stopped at our one at least and only do bake at home ones that aren't the same. I buy loo roll, bleach, Mr Muscle (bought once and still using it as you have to dilute it 1:50, might NEVER need to use another LOL), Finish, Ariel, coffee, shower gel (although a great deal and really nice I did get a bit bored of it by the time we finished it), meat is lovely but as someone else said best if you batch cook already so I would go with an idea of what you will be hoping to cook before you go and make sure you have lots of little baggies ready to separate things out into smaller batches for the freezer as we spend half an hour doing this as soon as we come home with the beef and the mince and chicken breasts etc, great quality though). We bought my engagement ring from there too and I love it. My parents got a good deal on their tv. Great for unusual or expensive looking pressies at Christmas while usually being quite reasonable. I also got a Denby dinner service from there with money from my wedding and it saved me a fortune on what I would have paid elsewhere. Remember to pick up the coupons at the door as you go in for special deals and be prepared for lots of little end of aisle demos where you can try some yummy food on your way round. We live an hour away now so don't get as often as I would like. We did spot the amazing deal on batteries last time though - with a toddler I now go through them at a fair rate too and DS Elefun game is quite choosy about which batteries it likes - cheapo ones don't have the puff so it has to be Duracell really although I have it on good authority Ikea batteries are amazing - live 3 hours away from my nearest one though! Would definitely suggest going with a friend or family who might like to go halfs on things. Bear in mind they don't accept Credit Cards either. I always forget that. Switch is accepted though.0
