Spending quality time together as a couple

OP, this sounds like me and OH - by the time DS has gone to bed, we are too tired to do anything.
To me, there is nothing wrong with DVD - you could always get a bottle and wine and some nice nibbles.0 -
OH and I enjoy getting some nibbly food in and watching dvd box sets together. We sometimes play cards together but I often struggle to remember the rules and he gets frustrated!:rotfl: It also makes me think that we're turning into his parents
I think it's nice to just set some time aside to ignore everything else going on - it doesn't really matter what you do with it!0 -
Tried to contribute to this thread earlier but OH was over shoulder reading!
IMO too much quality time is counter productive. Make sure you give each other independent time too. A balance of both is good! We have a date night a week where we do this sort of stuff. Really easy to get into the TV habit, so remember there is an off switch!
We're currently into downloading 90s lyric quizzes - great way to recall shared experiences.
Also play board games and cards together. Have taught OH crib and recently bought Mancala.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Read to each other.
Each select a book you enjoy (or think you will enjoy) and ask the other to read a section each night. maybe 10 miinutes each way, maybe more. It does not matter that you have different tastes.
Cuddle up while you do it. You may be surprised at how loving it feels.
On the DVD front, accept differences, and take turns watch a film that the other enjoys.
RAS I love the reading aloud idea. DH and I read together when he's on holiday (too hard to do with just weekends together regularly, one of us keeps the book on Monday!) but its tough because he's a slower reading then I am so I get to read the page a few times!
Also, I chatted a bit about this to dh last night and pointed out that we're doing some pretty antisocial things with the film watching. So we talked for a bit and it dawned on us that for US, no children and living apart weekdays, the talking bit we have down...we communicate daily and not just about practicalities ...what we need to get from quality time is the physical proximity and stillness that we don't get through the week.
What this has taught me is that to ''spend quality time'' together isn't the only thing...that it has to be appropriate to the needs of the relationship!0 -

the only pm I got, was from a bloke trying to pull what he thought was a married woman who wanted sex tips

We either snuggle up on the sofa with a film from Blockbuster (and a blanket when the weather's like this), fire the PC up and take it in turns to pick music and have a singalong or just sit on the patio with a drink (obviously only in good weather).
We also have a few board games for adults which we play from time to time or we work on "academic" projects together."Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. If we could just remember this, I think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world."— Frank Warren0 -
