My Mam had weights she used with her knitting machine, I shrank a jumper of DPs once and used those to restretch it out. Might be worth a try to save it, don't know how well angora would stretch back out.
One day I might be more organised...........

I think you are probably stuck.

When my daughter did this to the dress she loved most in all the world, she gave it to me to rescue, and it couldn't be done.

So it lived here in the basket for sad things for a while, then my cat turned it into a bed. It did make an old cat very happy.
  • I don't think it'll ever go back into shape - I shrank DH's best sweater once and it was only fit for an Action Man :o

You might be able to unravel it, but if it is too shrunk it may have 'felted' - if this is the case you could cut it up and make little purses or bags etc out of it.

Try washing it in warm water and hair conditioner first. note: Hair conditioner. It can help - I've seen it as a tip elsewhere.

Last week I saw on a list of cool green Christmas presents a hot water bottle cover made out of a felted jumper.
  • we seem to have a shrunk jumbers group going at work!

wash it again really hot next time you do a high temp wash then cut up and start making. if the cut pieces seem a bit messy, then iron them in a damp teatowel at a high temp, it really seems to neaten up.

then start swapping your designer felt with another shrinkee, for a contrasting colour. (even the arm of a jumper goes a long way...)

if you are a bit lazy with sewing and want to try glue, don't bother with pva as it doesn't seem to work. I'm going to try fabric glue next.

Anyway a fellow shrinker cut out xmas trees from an old grey jumper and glued sequins on - really cute and very designer...
