you could even try to stretch it over a plate to dry out, after rinsing it in conditioner, hope this helps.

My sister tried to unshrink a very expensive cardigan by stretching it. She ripped it in half in the process.

With something of such sentimental value I think I'd be tempted to leave it alone.

I've used fuller's earth (google the process of using it to unshrink items), but I agree that perhaps it could be better to leave it alone.

if it's only shrunk a little, dampening it slightly and easing on to its owner's head to get the right fit might help

I'm surprised it's shrunk as it would be felt to start with
Wool felt will shrink when it gets wet; the best hats are made of fur felt, which doesn't shrink.

I think berets, being the 'working man's hat' are usually made of wool felt.

A friend of mine has a very important garment that has shrunk, its his beret.

Basically , it was his dads , who was an onion johnny .

The beret was handed down to him and he lost it in the sea , he put it on a radiator and it shrunk .

Does anyone have any advise how one can unshrink a beret?

How could it be lost at sea then put on a radiator?:j:j:j

Hubby did the washing this weekend. Has managed to shrink my favourite knitted dress :(

    It's this one:

    img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=40844053

It's only shrunk a little width ways, but instead of being knee length it now barely covers my @rse

It's sold out, so I can't buy it again.

It's 50% wool, 50% acrylic. Is there anyway of rescuing it? I did do a search but couldn't find anything.

  • You could try using fabric softener in warm water, leave it to soak for ten minutes, gently squeeze the water out and then dry it flat, after reshaping it and pulling it to as long as you can get it,and keep on doing this as it dries, being careful to keep it even all the way round. I did this once with a jumper of one of my lot. Maybe someone else will have a better idea, good luck!!

I don't use fabric softener. Would hair conditioner work do you think?
