Everything is by discretion so you might not have to do any work... but "work ready" now... if you are unemployed in say 3-6 months time, this could all change.
no-one is going to be allowed to go the whole 2 years without doing a work placement.

It wouldnt surprise me if the providers didn't try claiming from the work trial period to get sustainable payments!!
people are still on benefits while on work trial so unless dwp are extremely incompetent then i doubt they could scam money out of them for a work trial.

I'm not so sure about that. In my experience, employers are not to keen on these work placements, especially the small employers. Even the large employers won't take that many on. For example, in my area, a fairly large parcel courier warehouse (around 600 employees) only took two placements on FND (they were supposed to take three, but changed their mind). I not saying there will definately be no people doing placements as it will depend on the area, but I imagine it will just be like New Deal and every year or so, the providers will come cap in hand to the government for extra money.

yes if they are struggling to find placements then it is possible that some wont do one. on the old new deal placements were very popular with employers because they could have people for upto 6 months for free and not offer them a job at the end of it. on fnd placements were only 4 weeks so obviously not so popular with employers. for me it proves that most employers were useing them for free labour with no intention of employing people. on this new programme there is nothing explaining how placements work. are they for 4 weeks? 6 weeks? do the rules require people to do one? etc. my adviser wasnt very forthcoming with info about anything related to the course.
i have been given a target of starting a placement by the end of october. apparently i need recent experience even though i have already done a placement a few months ago on fnd.
  • This is an interesting thread :) I have looked at the "anti-work-program(me)" websites and they remind me of the anti-census websites and all the conspiracy theory sites out there , it seems to me that too many people have too much time on their hands and spend their whole lifes worrying about "The System" that is out to get them

I have worked for three short periods (5mth, 3mth & 1mth) in the last three years so I keep getting my long-term unemployment reset, part of this was ESA and now it is JSA, the JCP was very helpful 3 years ago and started me thinking of ways to retrain and rethink my future career, I am now 48, the fortnightly signing on sessions are as much use as a chocolate teapot I agree, but when you get a chance to speak to an advisor I have found they have some good ideas.

I am actually looking for emplyment now in Training as I have just completed my PTLLS course, and one of these "Providers" is looking very interesting. I have read the negative publicity for them, but I can also see the positive sides, I would like to think that if I did get a job working for this particular organisation, I was not going to end up working with colleagues as "nasty and useless" as some here have experienced, I would hope that we could work in our "Customer's best interests" :)

Maybe I am being naive and too optimistic, but time will tell.

I would personally strongly recommend AGAINST refusing this type of opportunity, unless you yourself were also of the tinfoil-hat, conspiracy theory, anti-THE-MAN army, and you were willing to spend your whole life trawling the internet for ways to stay a FREEMAN ;)
  • I think I will ask tommorrow at the jobcentre if there are any jobs going with the providers, I have the PTTLLS too.I've already asked if there are any jobs going at the jobcentre and the lady said definatley not they have been cutting back for the last 18 months!

Does this 'course' still offer the extra £15.50 per week like New Deal did ?
