As a fella I much prefer women with long hair, minimum shoulder length, and often find myself attracted to her hair before I've even sometimes seen her face.

I think it normally takes a beautiful face to pull off short hair. If you have a slightly rounded or a very thin face then I think short hair is not a good look.

An example of a woman who I think suits shorter hair is the girl from the Harry Potter films, but that might be enhanced by the fact she has gone from being a girl to a woman.

I have cropped hair, although I keep the fringe a little longer. It is literally the only style that suits me. My hair is extremely fine and dead straight. It just hangs in sad rat tails and splits really easily when it's longer. It's so fine that me ears would stick through it and you could see my scalp. Having it cut short is the only way to make it appear thicker. As for the people who say only pretty women can get away with a crop I don't think that's true. I'm not pretty, but I do look much better with short hair. My eyes stand out more and my face has more definition.

Before I got my hair cut everyone went, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!". When I got it cut everyone went, "oooooh, that's nice!" including a male friend who likes women to look ultra-feminine. People find it very hard to imagine a long-haired woman with short hair. I do think some men are put off, but I not conventional girlfriend material (personality-wise) anyway so it's doesn't make much difference really!

    I love it!

In the 80s I always had various short hair cuts (I even had most of it as a number 2 shave at one point!) but grew it as I got older and plumper. I'm so tempted to have it short again, right now it is just skimming my shoulders, but I need to get rid of the hamster face first. My hair looks manky long, I've tried it, but I just end up with a big frizzy ball finished off with ends like ratstails, so not for me. Too high maintenance, I'm more of a wash and don't even wait for it to dry then go. It's always still wet when I leave for work in the morning, life's too short to faff about with it. Oh for the days when I just glopped a bit more gel into it, shoved it into place, and was off.

I tried to persuade the hairdresser to give me an undercut on my current bob but she wouldn't. I'm fed up with sensible frumpy middle aged lady hairstyles, I want something a bit more interesting again. Short hair feels different to long hair, I think it feels nicer, for those chaps who don't like it, perhaps you need to find a woman with short hair and see. But then there's interesting short hair and then there's 'rehearsing for my blue rinse and perm' short hair that a lot of middle aged women start having done.

I find short hair much more versatile than long, personally. Takes a lot less time to do something interesting.

I have had long hair (mostly past the shoulder, occasionally a little shorter) all my life, except once when I was about 8!! Two weeks ago I got it all, pretty much, cut off and now have 'choppy short'. I have a slight natural wave in my hair and this length allows a slight curl to form if I allow it! I wish I had done it sooner, was so fed up of the long hair sitting there, ended up tying it up most days, and it was such a pain to dry! I love my new look, and with the body, can style it in different ways and add little clips etc if I feel like it. I have had a few compliments too, and I definitely think it also makes me look a bit younger too :).

    I'm male.

As likely to be flamed for saying this as I am, I have never found a woman with short hair attractive.

We are all different, personally I have never found a man who bases attractiveness on hair alone that attractive ;).

I have longish hair and wish it was longer. I think most men prefer long hair.

I wouldn't go for a crop as it would take so long to grow out, but a friend has her hair like that and although it is high mantenance, it does look good. Another friend had it when her hair was growing back after chemo, and that really suited her too. If it doesn't suit, and you don't know until you get it cut, then it'll be a long time looking good again...

True, but I think it's a shame to stick with a look just because you are scared that the alternative might not work out.

I think men have a fixation on one or more parts of the female form. So hair could be his "thing".
If you find a lady with the bit of body you like, you tend to already like them, no real matter what the rest looks like. Mines not hair :p

I don't know whether women feel like this about men, or not? My OH has a thing about eyes in men. Apparently it wasn't my great body, funny stories, or gentlemanly manner. It was my eyes, Don't know why I bother tbh :rotfl:

You need a new hairdresser! Seriously my mother had a very similar problem, the hairdresser just wanted to give her a middle aged lady style. She eventually switched hairdressers and has a much more flattering modern style but that still looks okay on her at 60.

I'm another in favour of short hair. I think only some women can get away with a crop, but short hair of some sort looks good on most women - actually I think its long hair that only some women can carry off well. Especially as people get older, long hair needs to be kept in really good condition or it just looks awful.

Some women look so much nicer with short hair than long, it all depends on your face shape. Women like Keira Knightley, Rihanna, Halle Berry and all look lovely with long hair of course but really stand out and are stunning with shorter hair:
