RiCh I have an Astra 03 reg. Just needs the old one removing with the cage. Sony unit slides in but needs wiring harness adapter. The dash display does not work though. Also the steering wheel controls do not work. I picked up a wiring adapter at the local car accessory shop for £10. Halfords do them for about £14. You can pick them up on e-bay for about £5 + £3 p&p. I was informed that you can buy a lead which enables you to use the dash display but wanted to keep costs down so did not enquire as to its cost. Also I have noted that the radio will not switch on unless the keys are in the ignition whereas on the old unit you could leave passengers in the car with radio on and take keys with you.

    Hi, kevinbev
Thanks for your reply, i have just done a little searching for the adapter to make the display and the steering controls to work and it is around £75! Its more expensive than the head unit lol.
I think i will go for this head unit, as i just want something decent that also plays mp3 discs, and is better than the standard, and will check locally to see if i can get this adapter for the steering wheel controls for a few quid.

    Cheers

  • Thank you very much for this :T Got one yesterday from Hull. No Renault stickers or anything in the box - just a couple of inserts with the instructions mentioning renault. OH is absolutely delighted with it.
Started comping 5th Nov '07. Challenge to pay off £600 card balance within 12 months ;)

Winnings so far - none :rotfl:

The radio code should be written in the first page of the service record manual, mine is. But that will only work for the radio that was originally fitted.

Could be that for later models that pin outs on the yello plug are different. It isthis plug that holds the key to the display and control issue, the other plugs are for power and speakers, and are standard din plugs common on most modern cars. Good Idea to contact renault me thinks, prehaps we should both do it and see what replies we get.

Picked one of these up the other day, just fitted it to my old p reg rover 214 in about 20 mins. Old one comes out with a couple of thin long screwdrivers, unclip ISO wires, cage out, new cage in, clip ariel adapter on, ISO on and all go :)

Renault weren't prepared to discuss it with me (well, the dealer in Coventry anyway) because I hadn't bought the radio from them. I contacted an independent Renault specialist and they hadn't seen this model radio so were unable to comment. Sony claim to have never heard of this model of radio.
There must be a way for the display and control to work. The colours of the wires into the yellow plug are different from the Clio to the Kangoo, so i don't know what to do.

I've misplaced my Service book, so I'm tearing the house apart to try and find it now!!! Thanks for the tip though!
