Sony Car Stereo bargain!

I just bought a new stereo - a Sony one in the clearance section reduced to £46.99

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&searchTerms=5004269

I got the box home and realised I haven't got the one I ordered, instead I have got one practically identical to this more expensive version costing £99.99 (was £129.99)

The catalogue number of the one I ordered is stuck all over the box so I don't know if this is an alternative they've offered. I'm pretty chuffed though as this one has MP3 disc playback on it.

  • Anyone know if this error would be in all stores?

Could well be...... a few of us got Samsung cameras in a similar error last year. :)

Best way to check is to ask to 'view' the item before you buy it. If its the original one, walk away and check in another branch. HTH

Yup, just been and got one myself (did a customer viewing) and it's the CDXGT30RN with stickers over the 'Exclusive for Renault' bit (this was from the Wallsend Silverlink store).

A real big thanks to OP Loobysaver as this has brought a smile to Mrs Shaboo's face :j

She recently got her own (second-hand cheapie) car and Santa gave her one of the Aldi/Tevion MP3/SD card/USB stereos for Christmas which she was really pleased with.

Unfortunately it was a real mare to fit, the wiring was pants and to cap it all there was a fault on the radio so it had to go back for a refund (no more in stock).

Mrs Shaboo was disappointed to go back to the old radio but we've just popped down and bought this one and she loves it :T

It plays MP3/WMA, it's got a remote control, switchable illumination between orange and green (Aldi/Tevion one was a very bright blue which looked totally out of place) and ISO connectors built in so will plug straight into the wiring harness. The facia panel also seems far sturdier than the Aldi/Tevion one.

So although not as featured as the Aldi/Tevion one, for just £7 more she's got a little belter of a stereo (IMO).

Just off to fit it now.

    Cheers,

How easy are these to fit. I already have a Sony cassette player in my car. Is it just a case of removing the old one, connecting up the big block connecter to the new cd unit and sliding it all back in ?

    Thanks.

Yup, when you remove your old one there will be 2 plugs (iso's)

One contains Power, the other contains the speaker outputs.

If you have a sony one already you can just unplug the large black plugs out the back of the cassette player. Then remove the cage it sits in. Fit the new cage that comes with this stereo. PLug the iso plugs in the back of the cd player and away you go. A little tip TEST BEFORE YOU PUSH FULLY into the cage.

The only thing that some ppl will have to change is the red and yellow wire on the iso plug as with some cars these are swapped (some vauxhall, Mercs and smarts)

Should be - as long as your car has a standard connector, which is only likely not to be the case if your car is getting on a bit. The main problem tends to be be getting the old one out. I fitted a new one a few days ago and it took a lot of prodding to unclip it. Once out the new one was in a a few minutes.
  • OMG I reserved one, at my next nearest store, thinking id go on a jaunt...he he...did I email the reservation number to myself? Oh no:mad:
