I think what matters is how do YOU feel about what you do. You certainly do more than most people and some things, like disinfecting outside daily, are quite odd unless you have a lot of dogs pooing on your concrete perhaps and a baby crawling around out there as well.
Do you think that anything less than you do results in a 'mucky' house from your last comment?
Not by any non-OCD definition of 'mucky'.
If you just love housework and you can cope with this and aren't driving your family potty with it, then do what makes you feel happy.
But ...if you find it takes so much time that you don't get enough time to play with your baby, relax, chill with OH, read a book, whatever else you have to do, or if you are at it at 6am or 10pm at night, it's having a negative effect on your quality of life and the quality of life of your family. In that case, you have a problem and should do something about it.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

My Mum was a pain-the-bum to live with with her cleaning.
The cooker would be stripped down and cleaned after every meal, one day i said 'But we've had salad'. Her answer .... yes but we had a boiled egg on it.
Sometimes when she was cleaning the glass oven door, it wasn't good enough to clean just the inside and outside, the double glazing of the door was taken apart so she could wash inbetween the seal.
I think i'm pretty fussy myself but she'll be turning in a grave at what the house is like now.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

My house is clean and tidy, and thats it. There are so many other things I would rather do, than housework, even though I only work part time. Dont use febreze or any chemically type sprays. I think they are expensive, not necessary ( I just open the windows) and also ful of chemicals.
Good luck to those that like to be so house proud though, my mum was like that, and cleaning made her happy. Each to their own:)

My goodness life is way too short.
Weplay round and round the garden, clappy hands, peekaboo, 'Let's see how much mess we can make with 1 minibrioche'. We play bricks and fighting and dance and sing.
We wear clean clothes each day too.. though I think that is normal.
mopping.. is lucky if it manages once every 3 months.. mopped floors are dangerous floors... they are so slippy! I sweep the crumbs when they pee me off sticking to my feet. Vacuuming is currently once or twice a day.. without a grotbag baby shredding food it is maybe once a month. Washing, I probably do 4-16 loads a DAY.. 11 of us you see.. and the baby manages to grot all over me, OH and herself.
Things I don't do.. dusting.. !!!!!!?! That is just a stupid idea.. quick vacuum every few months keeps on top of that.. def. better than flicking it all in the air to be inhaled and resettle! I occasionally wipe over flat surfaces.. when I have nothing better to do like watch paint dry.
I have 6 cats, 2 house rabbits and 3 stinky fish..
The kitchen is functionally clean... my mug doesn't stick to the worktop! The loos are cleaned... in case I need to be sick... even though I haven't been sick for 2 years lol.
Mess isn't dirt...I have lots of mess.. toys, clothes, shoes, bags, papers, just clutter.. that is more important to be shifting.
IF you are happy.. keep on mopping.. if it is taking over your life.... you need to deal with it!.. Or come do mineLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
It's reasonably tidy. It's not spotless and show home like, but it's not so bad that I would be ashamed if someone turned up on my doorstep unexpectedly.
I tend to keep on top of the washing and ironing, especially with school uniforms as I don't like panic ironing in a morning.
Hoovering gets done a couple of times a week. We've got hard floors and radiator cabinets downstairs and the dog hair collects in balls under the cabinets, then wafts across the floor in small bundles when they wag their tails
Bathrooms and kitchens get a good clean once a week, and a quick wipe over when needed. The boys seem to pee everywhere but actually in the loo
Ex-MIL has OCD I think. For example the kitchen is hoovered and disinfected three times a day after each meal and I just couldn't relax there as I was scared of making a mess. She had frilly cover things all over the sofa, and the minute you lift your bum off the seat, she's there straightening them all back out againI wouldn't like my bairns to have to live like that, but sometimes I would like them to clear up after themselves a bit more.
Here I go again on my own....0 -

Lower wattage lightbulbs mean longer intervals between dusting becoming visibly necessary.

This thread puts me to shame.
OP feel free to come and be OCD in my place lol0 -
I do like a nice and tidy house, but I'm def not OCD about it!
I work 2 days a week, so the other three weekdays I spend most of my time cleaning. I do nothing but the bare essentials on the two days I work and at the weekend.
So i hoover/mop 3 times a week, dust the surfaces and clean the windows (inside, outside gets done v rarely) three times a week, deep clean the kitchen and bathroom 3x a week etc. I do all my washing on those 3 days, too, plus once a week clean out the chickens and the cat litter tray. Three days a week I also declutter and retidy my little people's rooms, which is probably what takes me the most time - they keep them "tidy" themselves, but their understanding of the word "tidy" varies quite significantly from mine!
I wash sheets & towels weekly, but will often stretch to fortnightly (for the sheets/duvets) if the weather isn't suitable to get them out on the line, and clothes & pj are definitely worn again if they are not dirty (fairly rare with the little people, though).
Things like cleaning the oven or turning out kitchen cupboards get done fairly rarely, and as for cleaning/disinfecting in the garden, never!0 -
I think I'm lucky as the baby is very chilled out
but I tend to do it first thing in the morning. I get up about 5:30 and walk the dogs, OH stays and feeds the baby. I do it all before OH goes to work about 7:45
I'm not in all day either - either out with the dogs and the baby, baby groups, helping with my elderly nan etc and we are out most weekends x
it certainly doesnt take over my life either, there is no shame in being houseproud x (although as someone said, I'm sure this will change when the baby gets older!):j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
Blimey, other lives eh?
I don't dust, or only do it when I clean up and see the mess.
Therefore I don't clean very often, but I do clear alot, otherwise we end up under a solid pile of junk.
So, clear up every day, keep up with the kitchen being clear and clean if I can.
Hoover when I see it needs doing, which is about once a week. The OH cleans the bathrooms at the weekend.
We always have people/kids running in and out in boots and mucky shoes, so if you're OCD, don't come and visitFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
