Just did a run through on a purchase and a great big page comes up as you go through purchase with this on.....Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
it is a very dishonest practice.
it was not clearly mentioned about the insurance when I bought, because I am very careful with tick boxes, and I missed it
I think they rely on you not noticing it on your card statement.
they then rely on you giving up on emailing and calling them.
they did not refund within 7 days of me emailing them, like they say they would on their initial email.
I emailed for weeks and then called and spoke to Heather twice who said they were 'behind' on emails, I had to call twice and she said it would be refunded and to this date 3 weeks later I still have NO REFUND....0 -
i too was conned by this the other week, they dont make it very clear that your are being charged for it .. only time i saw it had been added was in ticket confirmation saying payment will be taken later ...not included in the ticket prices at checkout hence me missing it
...it has been over 7 working days so looks like i will have to phone for refund0 -
I just got caught out too! Don't remember opting in, so I guess I didn't opt out. I think that part of the reason people get caught out is that the order process times out if not completed in a fairly short time-limit. Oh well, at least I managed to book the correct gig...I think :shocked:0

I always buy tickets through TicketMaster, and have never been caught by this.. It usually comes up on a seperate page before checkout asking if you want the insurance... Just tick no..? I bought tickets a coupld of weeks ago and it was the same.. whether they have changed the site or not since then I don't know.
I had considered using it once, until I read the T&Cs..!0 -
I bought 2 tickets to go to an exhibition at the National Gallery. I was automatically charged for the insurance which I neither want nor need. It took me 3 emails and a phone call to get a refund from Mondial. A very underhanded way of getting money out of people.
Brand owners/managers spend years and small fortunes building up a trusted brand and then some bean-counter decides that the public are so stupid that they can be fleeced to gain a quick extra few quid and there will be no consequences on the reputation in which all that investment has been made. Well, when this 'scam' was perpetrated on me tonight a quick Google revealed that I was far from the only one. Bad news Ticketmaster - years of trust just went up in smoke! I'm not going to loose as much sleep about the loss of a few pounds, as Ticketmaster should about the damage they have done to their brand. If they think they're the only place we can buy tickets, then they need to get real. I will simply use another supplier, whilst they watch their market dominance decline.0 -
They are still at it.Yesterday I bought 2 tickets for a show in Blackpool. You are on the clock to complete your purchase. If you tick the box "accept terms and conditions" which you have to do to continue, you automatically purchase the insurance.I am now starting to try and get a refund. I will never deal with ticket master again.
After many phone calls and a non-valid e-mail address to get your insurance cancelled the quickest way is to phone Allianze direct. 02086812525. They will put you through to the ticket master team and option 2 to speak to someone to cancel. Emma was very helpful.0 -
Recently caught out by this.
Foolishly I booked a ticket early in the morning so was probably not concentrating fully. Every other time I've carefully ticked the NO box, but didn't this time. Whether or not I ticked the yes box will remain a mystery.
Anyway, 2 weeks later (8 working days taking bank holiday into account), still no refund. Phoned the number from the T&C PDF that was sent on the original email acknowledgment (020 8603 9853). A helpful, and apologetic (all part of the job, but she was doing it well), lady then made enquires and assured me the refund will be with me in about 4 working days.
In addition to this she asked if I would be out of pocket (credit card interest) because of the debit. I told her "I hope not". I know I won't as I pay by direct debit.;)
Still, she insisted I contact them if I am charged anything, or as an alternative I was offered a shopping discount voucher, which I accepted. No idea if it will be any use to me but will wait and see.
A bit of a ramble but hopefully helpful if anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation and comes across this thread.
Phone them up & ask for your money back.
With a bit of luck (or maybe it's now standard policy) you'll also be offered 'compensation' for any other expenses incurred.0 -
Ive just had a look at purchasing page on ticketmaster
there is an option to select YES or No for insurance.
Why not just have a yes option to opt in?
but Im wondering if you leave both blank they automatically put you as a yes.
I have been charged as well - £11.97. I definitely did not opt for the insurance. I feel it is very sneaky indeed the way they do it. It was only after I had pressed the "go" button to purchase the tickets that I found out I had been charged for insurance. It should be much more upfront, in bold letters etc etc. They must rely on people not doing anything and raking in the funds! I will be requesting a refund, just out of principle!0 -
This seems similar to the requirement to opt out of PPI which has been frowned on.
