Recommendations for new washing machine

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to go with a Bosch.............
The model I want is available in lots of retailers online at a fair whack cheaper than the high street retailers, by £60 in some cases. Thing is, I've not heard of any of these and so not sure how to gauge which might be decent. Any thoughts?
We ended up with a Bosch 28440GB as we wanted it integrated and it's been great so far.
Had been watching the price for a wee while as we had to wait for the kitchen to be built and found sites such as 'properprice' and 'offeroftheday' to be useful (I know there are others out there, but I kept coming back to these).
Ended up getting ours from Curry's with a discount code - saved about £70 - and via topcashback which shaved another £20 off.
I know it might sound a bit chauvanistic to say, but my wife tells me that this machine is great (I just haven't had the time to check it out yet).
I think it also has some kind of afterspray thingy to help the drawer stay sludge-free (I'm sure Bosch have a snappy name for this facility) and the timer delay.
So far, so good - but I can't comment on longevity as it's barely out of it's box......0 -
Jo-R Yes, I think Bosch would be a good buy, - they tend to be very reliable. Miele are great but you need to be able to afford the initial outlay. AEG apparently are also good.
As for where to buy it, I guess it depends on how much after-service you want. We were happy to pay a bit more and buy from our local appliance shop. The guy came round and fitted it for us and the shop were also able to help us when we had a query later on.0 -
Re: Online retailers
Last year I bought my Miele through Co-op Electrical.
I'd only ever bought one washing machine before; a Hoover Ecologic which was expensive at the time but lasted 17 years with only 2 minor repairs in recent years, so was excellent value. So I decided to continue with the 'expensive but lasting' principle, as my house has steps up and a narrow corridor, so frequesnt changes not recommended!
As I wanted the Miele with the delay timer it was even more eye-wateringly expensive. But I love it, for all the reasons usually cited, and it'll be worth every penny if it lasts the 20 years I hope it will.
I used Co-op Electrical as I'm with the Co-op and got lots of dividend points (eventually ....) which felt like a bit of a comfort to the sore purse! They also had a bit of an offer on Miele at the time.
I started ordering online but because of the steps issue it directed me to phone them to discuss delivery. Everything was very straightforward: they just had to arrange two delivery men rather than the usual one.
Impressed with the Co-op service: online, on phone and the delivery itself.0 -
Another vote for Miele. Ours is about 6 years old and cost about £700 and came with the 10 year parts and labour warranty. Does at least two full loads a day and has never missed a beat.0

Another Miele washer dryer here. My Hotpoint died in December last year and because of all that snow we had delivery was delayed a couple of times which wasn't so good with a 6 month old baby
However, I love it, probably more than is healthy for such a mundane piece of equipment! I can get 3 loads washed and dried in a day, I struggled with 1 with the Hotpoint. It has broken the bank a bit but it's been worth every penny so far.

I'm with you on that one:o It is like night and day compared to my heap of crap Hotpoint i had previously:)
One word of warning about Miele, if you live in a flat and dont have a lift they are UNBELIEVABLY heavy!!!
Our lift was broken the day they delivered my Miele and delivery guys refused to take it upstairs.
Now my hubby is a very strong guy, he single handedly carried our old washing machine down 3 flights of stairs. He struggled to move the new machine! Phoned his even bigger mate and they humped and heaved it up the stairs with a lot of huffing and puffing and a few choice words:rotfl:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Our Hotpoint is on it's last legs, but it's had good innings lasting us 7 years and that was getting it second hand from someone who'd had it for a year! We only do 3 loads a week though. We have decided to go for another Hotpoint and hope our luck is as good with the next one- have seen them for approx £225.Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0

Think I must have been lucky with my Hotpoint too! Our previous one lasted 6 years with no problems, and we do around 3-5 loads a week. We then bought another Hotpoint and it's been fine so far, although we have only had it a year (I believe it came with a 5 year warranty). I would love a Miele though... maybe when this one goes...DFW by end of June 2016...! LBM June 2011
Debts start July 2011:[STRIKE]£53,846[/STRIKE] £31,716 (41%)0 -
Miele gets my vote too.Ours is over 20 years old and has only ever needed the filter unblocked which we did ourselves.0

Hotpoint have been coming with 5 year warranties for years but its only parts not labour I think you'll find. A big difference as you need to take out additional D&G warranty to cover labour aswell
Look for those who offer 5 or even 10 year parts AND labour warranties - they are worth having0
