Recommendations for new washing machine

If I could afford it, I'd have a Miele, going on recommendation alone. However, I don't have that sort of budget so bought a Bosch. Really, really happy with it - they give two year warranty and I also have a Bosch drier. No problems with either machine. Unless I get a significant pay rise I think I'll stick with Bosch for now.0

I have a Siemens machine (so does my mum) which came with a free 5 year warranty - they are both 7 years old now and still going strong. I've just looked on the Siemens' site and it also shows fixed repair pricing if one of them does go wrong - £89 + parts with a 12 month guarantee.
All in all, I'd recommend Siemens, Bosch or Miele.
I'd also recommend buying from John Lewis or Co-op online - they have always proved really reliable with ordering and delivery and the Co-op is really competitive on price (and you get divvy points as well).:hello:0 -

The thing to look at with capacity is which cycles have which capacity: ours boasts 6kg but that's only for the long cotton cycles, everything else is 3-4 kg, except the fast wash which relies on you putting in only 1kg :rotfl:Yeah, right.
I've got a Bosch, fairly basic one (classix) it is 4 years old and never missed a beat, and I do lots of washing
They come with a 2 year warranty, I'd have another one in a heartbeat.

We have a Bosch which has been going strong for 10.5 years. Bit noisy now but hardly surprising. Only annoying thing is the compartment the powder drawer goes into has got black mould in that is darned impossible to clean completely as it's all nooks and crannies.
We toyed with replacing the machine at the end of last year guessing it wouldn't last too much longer and thought we'd beat the VAT increase. In the end we didn't bother as I couldn't find a machine whose powder drawer didn't look like it would do the same thing so I ran out of enthusiasm for replacing it.Make £2025 in 2025

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to go with a Bosch, I have two things now I'm wondering about:
1. The particular model I have my eye on is a 7kg. I'm wondering if having a slightly larger capacity is going to make an awful lot of difference to our standard (I think) 6kg machine, what with doing so many loads of laundry. I don't know whether to stick with the 7kg with a Bosch, or get something that is larger but with a different (maybe less reliable?) brand. Lots of people have recommended Bosch to me.
2. The model I want is available in lots of retailers online at a fair whack cheaper than the high street retailers, by £60 in some cases. Thing is, I've not heard of any of these and so not sure how to gauge which might be decent. Any thoughts?Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

I bought an LG Direct Drive a few months ago and I love it, cheaper than the Meile I believe and the direct drive mechanism is guaranteed for 10 years. You wont find many poor reviews of the LG's online
Another LG lover here.
I had my last one for 10 years, that wasn't a direct drive, but was still faultless in the entire time I had it.
The one I have now is DD, with a large capacity and the timer function that I frequently use, especially in the summer so my washing is ready to go one the line when I get up. It's the best machine I've ever had, so quite too and at a much more affordable price than a Miele.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Siemens for me also. try and get one that comes with the 5 years parts and labour warranty. Apparently not as good as the Miele's but at nearly half the price I couldn't justfiy the extra cost.
ISE machine's another one to look at if you have the budget but similar price to Miele. Big problem with Miele as somone alluded to earlier was if the Miele does go wrong out of warranty you will be facing a HUGE repair bill and any make however good can go wrong don't forget. Especially if as many repair people indicate, most people don't really look after their machines particularly well.
So depending on your budget I would go with a Siemens or if not in reach a Bosch.
Finally do try your local independent electrical retailer (not Currys etc) and see if they will price match. you are likely to get better local service and you are keeping your high street alive!0 -
Keep away from Indesit! Bought one last year as bearings had gone on 8 yr old Hotpoint.
Choose the Indesit for its 15 min quick wash! Ha! That is basically for one garment.
Impossible to move the dial on, when you want to give something a quick spin for example. Soooo slow!Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Our Bosch has had LOADS of call outs under our D&G policy, new drum, new lid, new belt, new pump, bearings, 3x new seals new door........ and it's only 6 years old. Our old Ariston lasted 10 years and never missed a beat until it finally gave up the ghost.Nuts oh Hazelnuts:rotfl:0
