Avoid the cheaper Argos Beko ones, Mum's lasted just slightly over 12 months.

I bought an LG Direct Drive a few months ago and I love it, cheaper than the Meile I believe and the direct drive mechanism is guaranteed for 10 years. You wont find many poor reviews of the LG's online :)

We bought a graded Bosch about four or five years ago and it's lasted well - if we could afford a Miele then that's what we'd go for but they're definitely out of our budget. My parents really hammer washing machines (they have a catering business and it's not unusual for them to be doing seven or eight loads a day) and they've found that Bosch lasted them the longest. They've bought cheaper ones (Beko etc) and they've literally lasted less than six months.

Miele for us too again paid about £1k and got a 10 year parts and labour warranty. It's about 4 years old now and is giving no problems. If it only lasts the 10 years it will have been £100 a year which I'm guessing the average £200 machine would not last 2 years and then of course you have the hassle of replacing it/disposing of the old one and the environmental impact of doing so.

Just to say I have one with an inbuilt delay timer and it seems to work well.
  • Hi i have had a LG direct drive 7kg for over 5yrs now and we are a family of 8 ad wash at least once a day and usually its around twice a day. at onepoint i was washing nappies for twins so it was on the go 2 times a day for about a yr. i have had no problems at all with mine and would highly recomend as my sister and mum both have them abd have had no probs either. The ewer models even come with a ten yr gaurantee.

i am thinking of replacing ours because we have all black appliances and i would like a slightly larger drum so that i can wash my king size duvet in and will definatly get another as not only do they last but they have a 30min quick wash and a 95deg hot wash. and they clean the clothes really well.

when i got mine the guy in currys said that them and meile were the ones theyhardly ever get complaints about so its
worth going in store and asking them. plus lg is slightly cheaper too

It's a bit of a lottery. I bought a 6 or 7kg load one with the highest spin speed I could get without paying a ridiculous amount - turns out it was a Hoover and it was on special offer in Comet. I work with maintenance engineers, all of the said they'd had problems with each brand, so I chose the cheapest non-budget brand and, touch wood, 4 years later we've not had any problems.

I needed a fast spin speed because I don't use a tumble dryer.

I have a Miele washer dryer and it is fabulous, would highly recommend Miele.

It is definitely worth paying a bit extra for a good make such as Miele or Bosch.

Avoid Hotpoint at all costs, had one and it was the bane of my life.

the drum on these machines are bigger than average, it also does a 15 minute wash, a cold wash and a 95 degree wash
