....and if they find out about it and hold a disciplinary then a reasonable person would conclude who OP was referring to because of the warning about talking...! The OP might get off with a warning if it got that far, but there have been plenty of threads where employers take a dim view of this.

The OP asked if they could be sacked for it. The answer is "yes s/he could be sacked for it". Clearly the employer has to know about it to take any action - just as they would have to find out if s/he stole something from them.

I know it goes against what many of us actually do, but having too many work friends on facebook can and does backfire.

that is correct, but Forwandert was saying that the OP is going to be out of a job anyway because of it.

If they see it then you will be pulled and its not going to look good if in the same period of time. I would say its about someone else. I also think you really did misuse Facebook that's not a bullying tool but a communications tool.

Looooool I love how some people take things so seriously. Relax some of you! You cant be dismissed for writing a comment which cant be attributed to a particular individual on your own facebook page in your own time (his lunch time) and using your own property (which i assume is likely to be on your phone).

One thing I would say is that you are paid to do a job and we all take breaks whether it be a quick chat, ciggie or a cup of tea but if your manager has pulled you up then just accept it and get on with your work.

The way some of you reacted is if he insulted the King of the world or something, the boss is after all only a manager in a company, listen to him when he asks you to do something within your role and try not to insult him in public and you should be fine :)

I'm refering to if an employee called me mr poo head and i found out even if it wasn't proved the reference was to me they would be up for a disciplinary for any possible minor incident and anything covered by the employee handbook until they were no longer employed.

What do they need 12 months employment for? they haven't been caught for the Mr Poo Head comment, they've just been told off for talking too much.

For which - if they don't have 12 months employment, they can also be sacked. Or for walking on the grass on a Tuesday. Or wearing pink on a Friday. Or pretty much any other reason the employer wants. Op was chatting and not working; OP was distracting others by talking and not working - that was where the "silliness" began. And responded - on a social media site no less - with an entirely mature and reasoned comment, and only then wondered about whether they might get sacked.

I would suggest that the OP might want to consider engaging their brain before mouth and fingers in the future - this is a workplace and not a nursery, and it may or may not be the job of their dreams, but it is a job and the employer is not being at all unreaosnable in expecting them to be working when being paid to.

Forwandert you sound lovely! If somebody being quite immature called you a poohead you would devote time and effort to get them dismissed, you are in fact in all likelihood a poohead methinks.
  • I've worked for the company for 2 years my manager doesn't know about the comment just worried he might find out I was going to say that mr poo head s another member of staff who was on lunch at the same time and that's y I couldn't chat do u think I can get away with that?

just delete the comment and then start referring to one of your colleagues (obviously somebody you have a laugh with) as Mr Poo Head
