Can I get sacked for this?

Hi I've gone and done something really silly, I was called into the managers office on Tuesday for talking too much and not getting on with my work I was caught on CCTV doing this so I can't defend myself they have the evidence. Any way I was told to stop talking to the other staff and distracting them. On Tuesday lunchtime another member of staff put on my Facebook 'I know u can't chat but I'm here if u need to' to which I replied ' I can't talk right now because of mr poo head' I'm referring to my boss. Can I get dismissed for this?

So you were also using Facebook in company time as well as making derogatory remarks about your boss after already being informed you have to see him for wasting company time by 'talking too much'.

Seems you waste a lot of work time.

I am assuming this post is for real.

    Yep........you're not wrong there!
  • Probably not the wisest move in the world, but, how can anyone prove what "Mr Poo Head" refers to? It could have been a joke about wanting to use the toilet :)
  • I was on lunch when I posted the comment

Does your employers have an internet and social media policy? Not that i think it helps that much with this i think your will be out of a job one way or another, how long have you worked there?

why? the boss just told them to stop talking and then on lunch they said they couldn't talk just yet.
If they were on lunch then it's their time not the companies and Mr Poo Head could be anybody; before there's any possibility of them being out of a job, the company would need to know about the comment and then hold a disciplinary. The OP hasn't said that any of that has happened.

If they find out about the post - good luck with that explanation because you will need it. And I suggest that you remove the remark right now, and never post anything about your employment ever and never use social media in the office regardless of whether they say you can or not. Or would you prefer chapter and verse of the number of "friends" in the workplace who have printed off something that someone said about their employer and then brought it to the employers attention?

The OP also hasn't said they have 12 months employment!

What do they need 12 months employment for? they haven't been caught for the Mr Poo Head comment, they've just been told off for talking too much.

....and if they find out about it and hold a disciplinary then a reasonable person would conclude who OP was referring to because of the warning about talking...! The OP might get off with a warning if it got that far, but there have been plenty of threads where employers take a dim view of this.

The OP asked if they could be sacked for it. The answer is "yes s/he could be sacked for it". Clearly the employer has to know about it to take any action - just as they would have to find out if s/he stole something from them.

I know it goes against what many of us actually do, but having too many work friends on facebook can and does backfire.
