  • nearly forgot - we brought a whole lamb yesterday (sorry vegetarians:o ) - so this should really help bring January's costs down.

most people have loads of turkey to get rid of at this time of the year, we have lamb!

it cost £100 , but that was out of the Dec budget!

any OS lamb recipes gratefully received.....
    had enough of :wall:

I need to get back to work! Two days in a row I've just "popped" to Sainsburys for something!
Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...
  • Hi guys, would like to join your grocery challenge.

I have been keeping a spending diary for two months now and want to try and keep my spending down by joining this challenge. I have overflowing cupboards and the freezer is bulging with food and would like to use it all up before I buy anything else, find myself buying new stuff even when I've got enough to feed an army. I have only myself to feed, so am giving myself £40 for the month. I also have £15.00 worth of Sainsbury's Nectar points, £10 M&S vouchers and £10 ASDA Gift Card, so if I run into trouble can always use these too.

Will be looking for recipes with the ingredients that I have and use menu planning to use up things I have systematically. Thanx so much for this thread and here's hoping it goes well.

    Sorry bout the essay! LOL!

Right I'm in. Having read all of this thread I think that my budget for a month for 2 adults, one large dog and one terrorist (aka a tortoiseshell cat) should be about £180 not including petrol. I think it could be less but I want to reduce it gradually rather than set an unrealistic figure and give up when I fail.

BUT I've done a big stock take recently and have the contents of a corner shop in my freezers, cupboards and bathroom  So I'm going to try to use lots of stuff up and will set my budget at £100 for January. I've got a menu plan for me for the first fortnight as I'm doing the Easy GI Diet and OH has lots of the stuff he likes in that corner shop I've got.

Just off to make yoghurt with some of the Easi-Yo stuff I've got in the cupboard

Okay folks, I'm joining you if you'll have me.

5 adults and a big greedy dog. cat passed away sadly just before xmas.

will be doing a storecupboard challenge as desperately need to get rid of some of the stuff in the freezer and cupboards that dont shut now!!!!

so If aiming for £250, thats £50 each for the month. I am only buying organic meat or free range if I can also so well be having qutie a lot of veggie meals I think lol.

will put £50 in my purse and pay cash, keeping £50 extra for those big pargains that crop up - like organic or free range meat that would be a crime to miss out on (like mr goose and mr duck in my freezer!)

    good luck every one!!

my month starts today and ends on the 31st regardless of when my OH gets paid.

    pudds

edit Oh and I will have to add some money to this if I manage to get a kitten or two - cos I'll need to get kitten food etc. Just so you know and dont think I'm cheating or anything! cant wait to get one/ two.

I still haven't managed to stay inside my budget of £200 for 2 adults and 2 children. But I am determined to do it this month. We still have lots of food left over in the cupboards, on top of the cupboards and in both the fridge and freezer. I've written a list of the food we have and I've wriiten my weekly menu plan for this week, so here goes...

Am planning to rejoin this challenge, after a few months away!! Am now on maternity leave after having my 3rd child in November. Find it difficult to post often, but will update my totals as and when I get the chance over the next month!!!!!

My budget is £400 from 1/1/07-31/1/07. This is for 2 adults, 3 children and includes all nappies, household stuff, toiletries, baby milk and packed lunches for 2 DSs.

    Wish me luck!!!!

Have just read back over the other posts..£400 seems a lot but I know that's roughly what I,ve been spending over the last few months!! However, this is meant to be a challenge...so have reduced it to £350...still a lot, but I'll see how I do!!!:o
