    Hello all!

I'm new to this... New Year, New Start and all that!

I'm *aiming* for a £100 a month budget, for 2 humans and 1 dog... my OH is a strapping 6ft 3inch man with hollow legs and a carniverous appetite (moreso than the dog!) so wish me luck!!

Luckily the dog gets by on a bag of JWB and scraps... it's just us I'm worried about! I would also like to start using local suppliers, such as the farmers markets and butchers, but am not sure how this will affect our budget... I guess January will be a month where I find that out!!

    Hello Everyone

I too would like to join in the January 2007 Grocery Challenge. I have set my budget at £150 to start January 1st - January 31st, there's only myself and DH so we should be able to stick to it.

I plan on doing one internet shop and then have some money set aside in my purse for the weekly extras such as fresh veg and milk.

I need to get ideas on easy meals to make and setting up a meal planner, so I'm off to investigate the other threads on this excellent site.

  • I'm in again, too. Last months I managed to get below my target of £250 (by a couple of pence) - yeah :j , so January's target is £200. Cupboard and freezer are fairly full, so will do the store cupboard challenge too. That way I should get the cost down to £200 (she hopes :D )

  • Hi everyone,

I'm new to all this as well (like loads of others I see! :T ). I'm aiming for £50 a month for groceries (which is just for me and a cat ) - I've never done this before, it's quite a scary thought!

I'll be checking in every so often on here to see how everyone is getting on and to post my progress - thank you so much to everyone on these Boards for all your encouragement (especially for us newbies), I can't wait to start money saving in 2007 thanks to you lot! :T

Have a Happy New Year everyone! x:beer:

;) I've changed my mind about budgeting weekly and am going to go monthly as I think this will be easier for me. Sometimes when I'm shopping like today, and then see offers on nappies etc., it makes better sense to buy them and get them out of the way so I don't have to visit Mr T's just as much!:T
Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))
  • I'm going to pledge 120 pounds this month, that is only for me but with quitting smoking and not being used to taking lunches into work I'm giving myself some breathing room so there is some chocolate binge cash if I need it.

This is my first month so hopefully I'll be able to reduce this over the next few months thanks to all your help on the os board. :T

Edit: - I just remembered it is my birthday the end of jan as well so need a bit extra for cake.

I would really like to have a go at this. I have been following previous challenges and got to a budget of about £40 per week for 2 adults a teenager and a 9 year old. oh and our cat. Then I realised I wasn't adding on all those extra bits on the way home from work, so was actually spending more like £65 a week, which just sounds way too much. I am now the proud owner of a breadmaker and a slowcooker which are now put to use a fair bit :)

I have started a weekly spending diary and will be watching closely how much is going on what. I love this site - thank you!

I'd like to join too please!

This is my first challenge.. and in a similar position to bobbie78 (single, quit smoking today :T and not taking lunches to work.. although I have in the past but got out of the habit).

I've been very lax over the past couple of years and I guess I have probably been spending £200/month on food

£30/week or £120/month seems a sensible starting point.. so count me in!
  • hi, i would love to join in!

at home there is hubby, our 5 children (including 3 teenagers:eek: ) and me!

during school term i need to make up 32 packed lunches a week (gulp!) and this is usually where i fail with my budgeting (i usually end up running out of pack up food so pay out £1.70 each for a school dinner!) - while i am sure the children much prefer this - my budget doesnt!

have decided on £80 per week (£320 for the whole of january) - may be a tad optimistic but then i guess thats what makes it a challenge!:rotfl:

    good luck everyone
    had enough of :wall:

gonna sort my life out :j
