January 2007 Grocery Challenge

Hi All:hello:
I'm new to this too, but need to control my grocery spending! I'm setting a budget of £200 for January, including all food/school dinners/cleaning/toiletries etc. for my 2 children (very fussy 7 yr old & 4 yr old with bottomless pit for a stomach) & myself.
My weakness is wine:beer: & shopping when I'm hungry, usually with 2 famished demons in tow! Hopefully menu planning will sort that out! Am moving house soon, so will be having all sorts of interesting meals as I use up the storecupboard & freezer!
Good luck everyone :T& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Have tried this before but am convinced that now is the time to do it. Have set a high budget of £300 for the three of us, becuase at the mo I'm sure I'm spending far far more!
Am going to start meal planning and am hoping to do my shopping weekly instead of a massive monthly one at Sainsburys and then having to pop into Morrisons or Tescos for something every few days and coming out £20 lighter....
Wish Me Luck!

Received my online order from Mr T on Friday £75.06 (1000 bonus clubcard points). We now have loads of food in.
I now have £104.94 to last until the end of January. I still have coupons to use at Asda and I've nearly completed my menu plan
Good luck to everyone

Ok, count me in:T
It is just H and I - no pets. We both like meat and prefer to eat from farm shops or organic where possible so I have set out budget taking that in to account.
We generally spend about £50 a week in the supermarket and sometimes more, so I am setting the budget at £180 for a calender month for January and will reduce it by £20 a month if we are coping well. The £180 has to include all food, all household items but not toiletries or petrol. Also, any food we buy out of the house such as takeaways (our current downfall:o ) has to come out of this budget as well.
I need to find out how to do my sig and will keep that updated.MFIT No. 810 -
Hi.
I want to join as well. I was doing really well watching every penny on our DMP but things went a bit mad over Christmas. It really fell apart when I sent DH to do the Christmas food shopping with a list and our vouchers:rolleyes:
He left the list at home and just guessed. The word "budget" is obviously missing from his vocabulary so we now have a freezer full to overflowing with what I could salvage from the perishables left over.
So, as my salary went in on Dec 22 and has already got big holes in it...the rest is needed for DDs and SOs going out Jan 1st....and DH's wages will be poor for the next few weeks...its tighten the belt time again.
I am going to try and manage on £80 for 2 adults and 2 cats until my next pay at the end of Jan 07.
Can someone please tell me how you draw a line through figures on the computer...if you know what I mean! I'm a technophobe first class.0 -

You mean when you see something crossed out - like in my sig?
You're looking for the button on screen that is an S with a line through it - the code is 'strike' with whatever brackets are used on that site (square ones on here)DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
Signatures - Click User CP at the top, then edit signature on the menu that comes up
Strikes (aka lines through words/numbers) you can either use the bottom as earthmother explained or the code way which is to put STRIKE in these brackets [] before the bit you want to strike out and /STRIKE in the same [] brackets after it, if I did it it would strike my words out like this [strike]you see[/strike] but if you click quote my post will come up and you will see where the brackets and words goOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Thanks to earthmother and lil_me for that. I will have a go when I need to update.0

rachelmk wrote:I'll join in again too - December was a disaster shopping bill wise so I'll start again from today! I have done a stockcheck and we have about 10 main meals worth of food in and I get paid on the 15th so about 2 weeks to last. I'm settng myself a budget of £20 to pick up the necessary bits and pieces (bread, milk, veg etc) from now until the 15th and then £40 a week for the rest of January - £100 in total.
Good luck!
Well spent £8.80 in Tesco this morning to match up with all ofthe bits and pieces that are already in the cupboards.
£11.20 left for extras until 15th Jan!0
