How about the kissing statue at St Pancras? Then a glass of champagne at the champagne bar?(expensive but so worth it) If its chilly they give you a rug, and there are loads of private booths?
(sorry just reread you wanted discrete, perhaps not the statue!)

Just found this ... hope it helps

Isn't rain supposed to be romantic... Mr Darcy and all that?

Hopefully it will stay dry for you, but you'll have to come back and let us know how it goes :D

Plenty of free museums and art galleries in London. There's also the aquarium if you're happy to pay a bit. Or maybe up in the London Eye (although you're unlikely to get a pod to yourself).

I was going to suggest the cafe at the top of Tate Modern. Wonderful views of the sights of Londinium :) Best of luck :)

All I got was "shall we get married?" Reply "if you like". I guess that's official then :)

forgive my lack of a romantic bone.. but.. if she already knows.. why are you even bothering with the pretence of a formal proposal???

    Seems utterly pointless..

Call me a cynic, but I agree! If you have both already decided that you're going to marry each other, you're already engaged, that's what it means! What you're planning is just a ring presentation event!

If it were me, I'd be more than happy for you to sit me down at home, explain that you had this whole corny romantic day planned out but the rain ruined it, and that made you realise that it didn't matter where or when or how much of a romantic stereotype the actual proposal was, what really matters is that both of you want to spend the rest of your life together. Then spend the day in bed. ;)

(If you're sure she wants the 'moment' and the story to tell friends/future children etc. then go to the Courtauld and do it discreetly in front of Gauguin's 'Nevermore'. It was voted the most romantic painting, and there's a nice cafe for a slightly more relaxed afternoon tea than the Ritz afterwards!)

So what happened? Did you propose? Where did you do it if you did?
  • The only major issue with rain is going down on one knee - at least that's what my other half said! It was drizzling the day he proposed, but it didn't matter - you really don't notice when he surprises you with a ring!

Haha, well here's the snag, SHE ALREADY KNOWS! (through no fault of my own, through her using my facebook to send herself gifts on Frontierville

whoa!!!! alarm bells should be ringing here - you want to marry someone who plays frontierville! your married life would be overshadowed by the need to find horseshoes and bricks!
what if she starts on cafe world? it's a slippery slope....I'd run while you still can!!!

lol congrats, hope it goes well!
