I love my nissan, more for the gadgets like built in satnav, Bluetooth and reversing camera rather than boot capacity or mpg.
Well, as I said, it's all about lifestyle. Here, our priorities are entirely different, so what I'd really like is one of those Toyota pick-ups, like the one Jeremy Clarkson tried to destroy on Top Gear. Our farming partner has one and it just does....well... everything, although his wife has a Golf for special occasions.
The other vehicle I'd like is another Transit hi-top. OK, we have a Mercedes, which is tough and takes just about anything without grumbling, but its Teutonic seriousness and surprisingly spartan seats leave me unimpressed. I could drive the Transit all day and jump out at the end without even flinching. Wonderfully comfortable.:)0 -
I get around 40 miles per gallon in my Astra 1.7 diesel estate....and that is round town driving, I get a little more when I use the bypass more.
I'm not heavy footed (pretty hard to be in a diesel non turbo estate...it's a case of put your foot down and wait, putting it down harder makes no difference whatsoever!). Although people say it is a waste of money having a diesel when you do lower mileage, I have found it does save me money over what it would be in a petrol car (200 miles to a tank compared to 500+ in the diesel) and thus, still worth it.
Our first diesel paid for itself, the money saved on the fuel actually paid the instalment (and more), that we paid each month for the car to ex hubbies boss.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

The Rootes models were quickly killed off, and the Simca-based Alpine/1307 and Horizon soldiered on through the first half of the 1980s using the resurrected Talbot badge. The last car to carry the Simca badge was the 1980 Solara, a 1307 with a boot, but by 1981 this had become a Talbot, thus ending the Simca marque entirely"

Hmmm Talbot- not much of a flashy glamorous-sounding name for a car. How come in America they got swanky French -sounding names like Chevrolet and cadillac and then along lumbers dumpy-sounding Talbot.

I had a Nissan Almera Tino and loved it... until someone rear-ended me at a junction and bent the chassis.
I have a Ford C-Max now. It does the job, but there are all sorts of little touches about the Nissan that I miss. (I miss the sun-roof too.)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I've never had a Nissan as far as I can remember though I did have a glance at the Quashqai this time but realised it wasn't up to towing much. I always thought silvercar's avatar looked like a Micra.
Hyundai Santa fe premium for my sins. It ticked so many boxes but it was the test drive that sealed it for me. Them and Kia (South Korean motoring) have come a long way.
It's a refreshing change from Audi, BMW and that last nightmare Mitsubishi Shogun which only I only could put up with for 1 year.0 -
The closest I have come to a Talbot is when one pulled out in front of me on a National Speed limit road and I was in a proper mini - the mini came off worst, my only accident that hasn't involved people running in to me in car parks and there was no question of liability.
SilverCar I am really surprised for some reason (without any evidence) I was pretty convinced you were an Audi driver - apologies if that offends you.I love my nissan, more for the gadgets like built in satnav, Bluetooth and reversing camera rather than boot capacity or mpg.I think....0 -
When I first past my test I drove a Chrysler Sunbeam 1.0 then a Talbot Horizon 1.3. The Sunbeam was nippier even with the smaller engine but both had the same body. I also had a Humber Sceptre cheap "classic" car at one point but sold that on to a Roots enthusiast.
I'd put silvercar in a BMW X1 and I didn't have her down as overly liking her gadgets either :A Personally I find the reversing camera a bit cwap and only really good for finding the stopping point in a parking space. wing mirrors are far better
I'd love to see a reversing cam on a mini0 -
According to top gear (which I don't normally watch but do occasionally have some bonding time with DS watching cars) the reversing cameras are for checking out the 'assets;' of any women standing behind the car...
Was your horizon blue with a big dent in the rear RH wing?!When I first past my test I drove a Chrysler Sunbeam 1.0 then a Talbot Horizon 1.3. OT I note we are at 9990 and I believe 10k is the normal 'new thread' point. Who would like to be Carol this time? I think it should be Lydia as she is the most sensible.I think....0

Also OT do any NP know if there really is a lucrative holiday lets rental market for the Olympics? We would be delighted to rent ours out for 2/3 market value for the month and go to the seaside.I think....0
