We have a gas leak. So our gas is switched off and clamped, no heating, and our lovely new slate floor will have to be dug up.
<more swearing here>are they/you sure the floor has to be dug up? definitely nothing else?
Hope you get it sorted soon. Poor you0 -
We're not sure, no. We smelt gas, turned off the stop !!!!, and called the emergency number on the meter. He says it's a leak between our stop !!!! and our boiler, and the pipe appears to run under the floors. I am hoping like mad that this is covered by building insurance, likely to cost a packet.
But the managing agents are closed, not open again until Monday morning, so we can do nothing until then....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Hope it gets sorted out quickly for you, I hate it if utility's are down. We had the electricity off today for around 1 hour which is always a PITA, and just when I was thinking we don't ever get that any more in my village.
What I don't get is days of hurricane weather, trees down all over the place and it was fine. Today, no wind or cloud in the sky and it went down grrrr.
Can I have a guess at the swear words you used0 -

Is it not most likely to be at a connection like the cooker or central heating, rather than under the floor.
Just one thing to look at is how long your policy has to run before you can claim as your not long moved in but I expect you should be fine bar the excess.0 -
Was much more economical than my mini. I swear you could get another 50 miles out of an empty tank from the fumes of an oily rag waved over the petrol tank.:D
the official MPG of my super-steroided up nu-mini is supposed to be nearly 50. i reckon it wouldn't do 50mpg if it was rolling downhill with the engine off.
mind you, i do have a heavy foot!0 -
Yep - other owners of our car claim mileages up to 50 - we get 38 max and generally low 30s in the diesel and low 20s (sometimes teens) in the petrol (we have 1 of each) - not bad for a 1.6:eek:
NDG may be your pipe was damaged when your floor was being laid in which case you may have a claim against the builder - do you know any good lawyers
Do you have an electric immersion for hot water. Can you nip round to a big 24 hr supermarket and buy a couple of electric rads/fan heaters? (or you are welcome to come here and borrow a couple from us on even stay in the spare room come to think of it)I think....0 -

Unlikely, sadly. The strongest smell was in the corridor downstairs, so the bloke reckoned it was the pipe.
The policy is for the whole building, not just for us, so we should be OK, I hope. Crossed fingers.

it could have been - here's hoping it's easily fixable, cheap, and doesn't ruin our floor for ever.
A very kind offer, thanks! OH drove over to my parents' house and borrowed an electric fan heater, so we won't freeze. Just be cold. And there is an immersion heater, we just need to find out how it works!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I love the lounge with three vents (a surveyor wouldn't notice that at all!) and the clear damp patches on the walls. Real workmanship there. Damp Proof Course anyone
People are going to love the security of that back garden on a main road. They've built a new wall right across the front as well, restricting the number of cars you can park at the front. You'd buy it and change it if it wasn't overpriced.
You'd never guess it was a period property would you?

Am I right in thinking you are in leased rather than freehold property?
I've survived two gas leaks, when staying overnight at friends' places.
Fortunately both were on the company's side of the stop c0ck.
Both were fixed in the middle of the night by re-routing the supply pipe, rather than digging out the old one (one under a suspended ground floor and another replaced to run along the wall in the attached garage.rather than in the ground).0 -
DG - possibly you missed my question - I am looking at a semi converting the hip to a gable dormer loft room which I think is PD but then I want to add a 4m single storey rear extension ire more than the 3m PD - does this then bring the dormer into consideration for planning too? Thanks
Yes semi's, unlike detached, only get 3 meter rear extensions as PD.
Are you allowed to change a hip roof into gable as PD ?
Without paying for this link - the preview shows a hip roof with a side facing dormer, complete with the all important skirt of original roof.?

It seems there might have been a further clarification since I investigated the options before selling a probate property a couple of years ago.0 -
