I grew uo in the countryside where even in the terrifying 'dark' people still drove at reasonable speeds whereas round here where 99% of journeys are on lit streets, go on an unlit road after dark and many drivers seem to find anything over 30 too scary
This working lark is definitely getting in the way of house stuff and even MSE - this evening got back to the station at 7, watched the DDs practice then perform in the junior choir for carols by candlelight at the church, snuck out after there bit as planned for youg kids and found we had been parked in so had to wait till 9pm before we could get out of the carparkI think....0 -

Sounds great. Nothing worse than being fussed over when you feel ill anyway. Give me a cup of tea then p!ss off (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Relative was wearing a seatbelt and even though the car turned over she just had bruising, as walked away, other kids all ok, but worse injuries due to not wearing belts. She's very shaken but thankfully a valuable lesson learned. NPs may remember that it wasn't that long ago and also at this time of year that a young member of my family lost her life in a car crash at the tragically young age of 19. We're hoping that the younger rel will be very careful now when picking who to accept a lift from.
Seatbelts matter. My kids are alive, although they had dreadful bruises from their seatbelts. Another kid (a boy of 10) is not alive. He had no seatbelt bruises, but fatal head injuries from being thrown from his mum's car. He's one of the others who'll be having a joint inquest with LNE.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Mood-lightening time! Let’s change the subject from car accidents.
Christmas puzzle (if you’re up for it). In a room there’s ten large sacks filled with identical coins, except one sack has forged instead of genuine ones.
If you identify the fakes you get a huge reward. The fakes are really good but are a different weight compared with the real ones (say they’re 11 instead of 10g)- and you know this.
There’s an accurate weighing machine that you can put any amount of coins or sacks on - but it can only work once (it can’t weigh anything accurately after you’ve used it once).
How can you identify the sack of fakes? You can ask any questions about the sacks or coins and I can give a yes or no answer.
And no cheating – can’t look it up on the internet (New Mexico anybody)? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Let me get this straight. You know the weight of a real coin, and you konw the weight of a forged one, and you're allowed one go with the weighing machine? If so, I can do it. And no, I didn't look it up. But I think I've heard it before - a long time ago.

Some places are notorious. I don't travel the A377 more than twice a week max, and it's not a very busy A road, but I've seen three accidents in the same place in 2.4 years. How many do they have when I'm not there?
There's one in Kent like that, not far from my parents' house. A long straight bit, and then a sharp bend. Too many people go along the straight bit, and then don't make the turn, and go through the hedge, into one of my parents' fields.
My Dad's been making a fuss for a few years about it, saying that it needs to be marked more, earlier. The only thing that's happened is that a post carrying the leccie cables has been moved out of the firing line....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Well done m'dear!

And yes it would have been a long time ago that you saw it before - a time of TV movies rather than the internet! :cool:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
