My grandparents had one. It was amazing - could really feel the heat off it.
Not very mse I'd assume though...

Had one once in a rented flat - I agree with lydia it's very MSE as it's a room people are rarely in.

Well, I think it is very MSE if you have a separate loo. It may use a lot of power for the few minutes you're in there, but the total energy used is peanuts compared with the wastefulness of heating the room all the time. Wouldn't work with kids though - they're incapable of remembering to turn lights off. (Well, mine are, anyway. :o)

Flatmate tried to dry his socks by draping them on it. Destroyed it- the surface melted and caved in.. Don't do that!

And kids only talk about the environment when they're lecturing us old-timers; they wouldn't lift a finger to save it if couldn't annoy us with it. :D
Congrats on the fourth star, Lydia!

I wonder how eco friendly sensor switches are, my dad had them in london. I remember watching a tv show about a house where things were clap controlled and he scoffed...he didn't need t do ANYTHING but be ...he went in and the lights came on. they had some sort of manual override too.

At work you have to wave your hands around like an idiot every now and again when it us quiet as the lights turn off...

I bought a sensor switch for the garage but it needs 3 core wiring to the switches and by this time it was already wired with standard 2 core, so if anyone needs a switch...

I'll be satisfied when our security lights work on motion sensor. :)

    Everyone sorted for Christmas yet?

I suppose the friendly thing to do at this point is for female NPs to be giving the boys bit of a kick here on behalf of wives and children.....

We've cancelled it. Too much going on. So, "sorted?" has the reply "not started"

I have 0 cards and will receive 0 gifts.

are you not having a meal with closest sibling? Does sibling have a family/kids?

I know dh isn't sorted because he's started ''casually emailing'' for my pinions on things fro the V and A shop:D. He has however planned his christmas day outfit. My mother has given him a god damn awful t shirt she wore in the 80s in LA and it covered with big plastic ''gems'' and some leather fringing. He's planning on wearing this with his fleece pjs with the stars on and a long sleeved t. (he's embrasing the ideal of not having lots of people here). My dad will almost certainly wear a suit.

dh btw has perked up. He's still not gonna stay put but I'm not worried about his emotional wellbeing anymore.:) He's back to himself.

No! I believe I mentioned the hole in my head where the gift-choosing part of the brain should be?

DW has dropped a few hints about a better phone. She's on orange payg and it's a standard phone not a smartphone.

All the threads offer advice on touchphones that work like the iphone or my cheapie alcatel OT108 (and that's not a smartphone). I know for a fact she'd like something with real buttons but would probably baulk at a blackberry.

Something that gets emails, takes photos would suit her.
Any hints / advice/tips gratefully received. Or is there a cluster of good search terms I should feed into the search field? :o Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Having a meal, but we've no idea where the old will be that day and might be moving the old between now and then, so we're not making a day of it, just having a meal, sans gifts. Nobody's got the stomach for list-making or shopping with so much changing so often and quickly.

You have to eat every day ... that's how eventful this will be.

I've never known anybody have outfits.... we've always just got up and pulled on whatever's nearest.

Certainly nobody would be wearing a suit ... courts are closed that day :)

What do you mean by real buttons? one button per letter or real as in touchy feely rather than touch screen?

    What do her friends have?

i've got an iphone 4 and a blackberry bold 9700. the blackberry is much better for emailing, or indeed typing anything including text messages. it also has instant messaging which i hear is helpful for co-ordinating mass looting of low-end sports shops, and it doesn't lose reception when you pick it up which is also handy.

the mrs recently got some samsung android thing instead of getting another iphone as it was half the price and nothing to pay upfront. it seems to me to be just as good as the iphone and i think i probably won't bother with another iphone when i come to upgrade.

you can get android phones with keyboards but they're usually the type with a fold open keyboard arrangement (so it looks like a mini laptop when the keyboard is out) which annoys me and i don't think i could put up with something like that - blackberry seems much more practical to me.

personally i think i would go for a blackberry as if you want a phone with real buttons i'm not aware of anything which is better and most of the other ones just look annoying.
