what about a tulip tree? one in a nearby village garden has realy impressed us this year...flowers carried for a long while and cheery colours like home for your dw, shade giving, lovely fresh loking leaves through summer. Could hang lights on in winter!

We don't do Christmas trees or decorations...not since the marriage breakdown. I did do it once, think it was the Christmas before last but it depressed me so much to see the lights twinkling away and reminding me of Christmas past, that I will not be repeating the exercise.

I am also far too OCD over fire risk these days that having extra things on would send me over the edge....the kids already think I am a little weird, I even switch the cooker off at the wall (electric cooker) after cooking as a just in case measure!

We still do our deccies (it is what we shout when we see them) search on our car journeys though and get involved with my parents decorations.

Well, 1st official day of the school holiday and the boys are having a lay in! Not a usual occurance but youngest had a bad night as he has yet another cold and I think it led to a disturbed night for the others...hence the still being asleep at this time of day. The way youngest is, is a bit too close to Christmas for comfort, the last thing we need is a hospital admission, even though we don't do the special stuff at home, we always throw ourselves into Christmas at my parents on the day....plus my parents need all the help they can get with the cooking and hosting (which is now my job).

I am almost all set, only one more small thing to get for eldest, the other two are sorted, my mum's pressie and something for my sister in law and I am done!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    what about a tulip tree?

We cut ours down two weeks ago. The previous owners' last act was to light a bonfire next to it, killing one part, and then the high winds got into it and tore other pieces away. It was gradually thrashing itself to bits. :(

They are OK in a less exposed situation though.

The toms are just cuttings from summer, brought into the conservatory last month. No heat, but the house warms it a bit. It would be a different story if we'd had last year's weather. ;)

the one I live near here is on the road from you DWs old town to my village, in a village location.....its stunning, but as you say, reasonably sheltered though I think north facing road side, so probably a bit of an ice trap for a month or so a year.

as a matter of nterest: what is the wood like? its it decorative? or do you recon it will burn well?

I'm afraid it's 3 fibre optic trees in my house.....

    Instructions

Pull out of box, adjust the branches, plug in and watch it sparkle.

Must admit I didn't like the idea of a plug in tree at first but now I'd not go back. They come ready decorated and with snow in some cases and can be memorising watching the colours change in the dark.

Well, I like outdoor lights, and I don't care if they're non-u. I prefer just lights being lights (whether white or coloured) and draw the line at writing, pictures, inflatable snowmen, etc, though.

The kids and I are hoping to deal with tree, lights, and other decorations tomorrow. In previous years we've done them a bit earlier, and they've been asking to do them for a week or so, but I couldn't face it until after the funeral. It's going to involve rearranging some furniture, I think, and we need to do some getting ready for my dad's visit, so a busy day tomorrow.

I wouldn't have things like writing or inflatable snowmen or trains made out of lights......

but anamatroic reindeer on the other hand............

Oh, forgot to say, also had some good news over the weekend. Found out I was hugely in credit for my electric, so am getting a refund of £120 (still leaves me with a decent amount in credit as a just in case measure)!

Ok, it probably won't be through for Christmas or possibly even New year but it will certainly come in handy for the typically eek weeks of early January.

They also wanted me to reduce my weekly payment (I pay weekly by standing order rather than monthly by direct debit as it is easier to budget that way) but me being me and for the sake of peace of mind, I opted to keep it where it was and said I would review come the spring.
